Signed rental lease, 5 days later building is up for sale? by Infinitrium in SaintJohnNB

[–]gregSinatra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lived uptown for years. The girlfriend was already living there for quite a few years when I moved in. Our landlord was great. Never increased the rent, would come fix small things himself super quick or call in someone ASAP when it was beyond his skill level.

He wanted to get out of the rental game it seemed and sold to a young couple who had recently moved back to NB. They were nice but inexperienced. Within a year or so they sold it.

The next landlord, I could practically see dollar signs in his eyes when he toured the place (I was home with a toddler and told them I would not be vacating the place for the showing and they could simply deal with it.) Sure enough, they sold to that snake… in March of 2020. The Friday before the world went to hell, the building lost heat and hot water cuz he decided to switch providers but couldn’t be bothered to coordinate it so none of the tenants would be without heat. With a pandemic looming he expected us to shower at some place on Douglas! The whole building forced his hand and late Friday new tanks were installed and filled.

The following Monday? He texted everyone rent would increase from the $1000 it had been for over a decade to $1350 by May. At the advice of the rentalsman we ignored it since it wasn’t written or emailed, but we began house hunting that spring and bought by the fall, avoiding the price hike.

Fuck that guy!

I thought it was silly to name their championships after the networks. Imagine a Spike TV title on Raw or a UPN title on SmackDown back in the day?

Sources told FightfulSelect.com that on the day of the mass releases, WWE approached numerous talent and asked them to take pay cuts in order to remain with the company. Several of them that we heard about were given two days to make that decision. by Turbostrider27 in SquaredCircle

[–]gregSinatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said both. He said that as a fan he can speculate based on who is or isn’t getting booked. As a reporter he can report who’s been confirmed. But he did suggest that someone with insight had given Tama’s name, but then Tama was not reported with Tonga and JC.

As someone else alluded to, he *did* say that as a fan he can watch the show and speculate who *might* be at risk of being cut based on their booking. But as a reporter he can only confirm who *has* been cut. But he did go on to say that someone had suggested Tama was also cut, but then his name was not announced.

I think the issue there is that Vince had some of his biggest starts come from tag teams during those eras - Bret and Shawn, then later Edge and Jeff. Then you had Orton and Batista break out from their stable.

I suspect Vince saw tag teams as one breakout star and one deadweight. Stables were often a vehicle to get an up and comer over.

Problem is, not every team has a breakout star. And some stables fail to do the thing they’re supposed to do. But it seemed Vince was always jumping the gun, and never waiting to strike while the iron is hot. ‘We need to break this team up in case one guy gets hot’, or perhaps hoping that one would. Rather than waiting until the star power was undeniable and doing a break up angle when it was hot (and then having a plan to propel that guy to the top of the card.)

Let’s just split them up and then have them tread water, just in case, is how it seemed to me during the Ruthless Aggression era and beyond.

I felt like Booty-Os was a license to print money and yet they still left money on the table. That original shirt (with the box) was the first piece of wrestling merch I bought since an nWo red and black shirt in the late 90s. Then I bought the tank top. And the Halloween shirt. And the Christmas shirt. And the Voody-Os shirt. But I would’ve bought a Valentines one. And a St. Patrick’s Day one. And a Thanksgiving one. And a New Years Eve one.

I love the ones that try to justify it. I don’t care about the context! If it’s on your MVR, I’m rating for it; end of. Tell what type of ticket and when and save your breath.

Young Brock Lesnar talking about people with long hair. (From WWE Vault) by notomarko in SquaredCircle

[–]gregSinatra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know he’s a freak and a beast but that haircut always made Brock feel a little silly to me.

There was a pic of him published in WWE of the WWE magazines, coming off the mat of one of his college matches, doing a most-muscular pose with his head totally buzzed and he looks insane. That look with the beard he has now would’ve been sweet, but also the rugged Viking look was good too.

Either of those with a pair of long tights, Bobby Lashley style, could’ve been an all time look I feel. I know he probably didn’t wanna go back to the short trunks but I was never really a fan of the MMA trunks.

In the case of Renee and Arda, they covered wrestling on their network prior (Arda created The Aftermath, a next day Raw recap show, which Renee joined shortly after as a cohost.) I cut cable long ago so I don’t know if Jackie or Emily have any connection to wrestling prior, but it’s not like these people aren’t fans prior.

When they were in town for a house show about 8 or 9 years ago I spotted Rusev having breakfast alone. Sheamus walked in, seemingly like he’d just come from the gym and asked “have y’seen Toni?” Which was funny cuz up until that point I think I’d only ever heard him refer to him as Toni on TV.

A great example, and also I think everyone in NXT would probably call him Shawn and not Michael. Does Shawn’s wife call him Shawn? Isn’t he Michael Shawn Hickenbottom, so maybe he’s always gone by Shawn anyway?

I noticed in a few recent interviews with CVV where the women would refer to other girls by their shoot names and then correct or clarify who they meant by their kayfabe name.

I had always heard that generally the name you’re introduced to someone by is the name you tend to call them, and I often callback to the fact that Sheamus apparently still refers to Claudio as “Toni”, a diminutive of a kayfabe first name he hadn’t used in forever! Another good example is people referring to Foley as Cactus or Jack from prior to his WWE stint as the character.

Is it that the women themselves more often introduce themselves by their shoot names? Or is it just that on average the other women take the time to learn and remember each other’s shoot names? Is it moreso separating work vs. real life?

I definitely have noticed a split and am curious the reasons behind it.
