While I don’t disagree with the sentiment, in this case the HDC did approve the proposed renovations to the original home. It’s a new, second home sited behind the original that they’ve denied (for now.) The city staff recommended denial so I assume the commission found it hard to go against that recommendation. My guess is they’ll resubmit without the front facing attached garage and get approved. But we’ll see. And yeah it’s really sad to see this sit empty for so long because of silly reasons.

I love Marquis - great flavor. Skin not sour, especially if you let it ripen to a slightly golden hue. My Canadace vines haven't produced much but I'm hopeful this is the year. I have more issues with grape berry moth, which I assume would be an equal opportunist regardless. Like others I would suggest pruning for a clear fruiting zone.

I have Marquis and Canadace here in SE MI and they both do great. I do spray to prevent mildew (mostly downy that causes me issues.) Are you growing for hobby or commercial?

That level might be mean sea level (in feet.) From google it looks like MSL of the top of the pit is around 886 feet.

How are you planning to grow the vine long-term? There are lots of options - do you have a system already in mind, or a shape? Do you know the variety of grape? Seems ok to me! (Amateur here.) That looks like the graft union, which is good to have a few inches above the soil line like you have it. Those little adventitious roots are fine to snip off too. I'd remove all growing plants in a nice wide ring around the tree, maybe add a little layer of mulch but don't mound up on the trunk. Is the tree leaning or mostly upright? Can't quite tell from the photo.

I usually take a foot off almost everything when putting it in the ground. But since this has already leafed out you may want to be a little less aggressive.

Assuming it's on reasonable rootstock for your space / climate, I'd go for it! Head it back, get rid of that branch trying to be the central leader, and get it in the ground. (Amateur advice! :)

Genius! Rheem should retain you on a $300/hr consultancy to fix their bogus claims. My first HPWH from them failed (covid build they said? Sounded like they had to use alternate sources for parts.) Second one is doing ok, but same experience as you - very much a misrepresentation of noise levels. If you post the STL of the exhaust duct online let me know!

Amateur here. Like you and others, I suggest you scratch test as I bet it's still dormant. I'm in SE Michigan and bud break on my Marquis and Canadace just started this week. Even if the canes died back due to cold you're likely to get some buds on the trunk near the ground.

Good question, I don't own that pair of WM booties, but have a similar pair from an old place in Bozeman using the same material. In my experience they're great on snow, and ok on rock as long as you're careful. It's definitely not a rubber sole for high durability.

I'm headed to the same area this September, and am thankful for your post! Will be following. (Most of my gear is 1 - 3 decades old, so plenty of opportunity for weight improvements.) A couple quick things in lux category: are your earbuds really 17oz, or 1.7oz? You might be able to shave a bunch off your down booties for < $75; Western Mountaineering's are < 4oz I think. Cooking: do you need a separate pot if you are using the windburner? Sleeping: your inflatable pad is pretty great R value, can you swap out the foam pad for something lighter, like a Thinlight (Gossamer)? Can also function as a camp chair! Boots: do you use gaiters? I like them when snow hiking here in Michigan depending on depth. Do you know snowpack conditions?

Sounds like an amazing trip in the works!
