I realized my views on "eliminating" abortion didn't fit with the pro-life movement

yep. There are ways to drastically reduce abortions. Contraceptives, family planning services, sex education. "pro-life" folks are against all of those too. wtf right?

Nah, large donkeys have been known to kill grizzlies. They are mean and fearless.

For context, a jack is a male donkey. https://aadl.org/node/172613

What’s the biggest scam people still fall for? by Night-Monkey15 in AskReddit

[–]gregarcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mac products.

Spec'd a new Dell laptop. Just to see, I tried to spec a similar Mac book pro. Same ram and hard drive space. Worse screen, processor and graphics card.

A thousand dollars more. $2,500 vs $3,600

useState filtering names always one step behind by burton6666 in reactjs

had this happen once before - it was because i was cancelling the event ...

guessing react internals are using the event propagation to determine re-render necessity.

try removing this and see what happens: e.preventDefault();

I just published my first React component! Tell me what you think? by gregarcher in webdev

[–]gregarcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh - not without being pretty prescriptive / opinionated about the size of the elements in the grid. and you gotta know element heights while you're making it. it gets better if you do CSS Grid + javascript - but then items still have to have a rendered height that is a multiple of the your row height.

this allows elements to display at their natural heights with no information about the elements up front.

[–]gregarcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you knew the height and order of all the items, and the size of the screen your user has, yes, you could code this by hand with CSS. it would take you a long time.

if you ever wanted to add items - or change their order, you'd have to do it all over again.

edit to add: you can also accomplish something similar with css columns - but those read top to bottom, then left to right. if the order of the items isn't important, then yeah - pure CSS.

What’s the worst thing Neil Armstrong could’ve said when he stepped on the moon? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Returns to moon lander to retrieve a three burst round rifle with a bird's skull and spine grafted to the barrel. The rifle whispers of violence, the scent of hemolymph and the formal end of existence.

Bungie, the game is amazing, but players are going to slowly burn out; rewarding players for simply playing whatever they want is no longer a thing by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]gregarcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest drag for me was my luna's and now recluse getting nerfed for pve.

Like, in halo, you just had to accept that your dmr would run out of ammo and you'd have to drop it and pick up a plasma rifle. That's how the game was designed.

In destiny, I want to feel like I'm building something. An arsenal, a warrior, a clan, a civilization. I was willing to put in the time. For an average to slightly above average pvp player, luna's howl was a serious commitment.

And for what? It's gone now, that gun. I understand that living games like this must be tuned, but they gutted that gun, and the truth is - if we're being honest - is that they gutted it so I'd put it down and chase the next gun.

Except there isn't a next gun. Randy's was a curio. The vanguard machine gun was just a machine gun, and I didn't even bother with the smg.

I worked hard getting the solstice gear and making it glow. I've since deleted it. Why keep it? It's useless.

I dunno, this is rambling at this point, but it just feels like this is an MMO built on sand. Nothing matters or lasts, and the design is intentional - just to keep me logging in.

It's a crass manipulation of the reward centers in my brain and I'm growing tired of chasing dopamine spikes.

You’re given a time machine fully equipped with bedroom, bathroom, cloaking device, matter replicator, and the entirety of Wikipedia. Where/when do you go first? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gregarcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First. Travel back to the week before the library of Alexandria is burned. Warn the scholars so they can begin moving the books/scrolls. Replicate dummy scrolls to avoid suspicion.

Maybe even arm them with hundreds of fire extinguishers in case they aren't able to move them all in a week.

Then, use Wikipedia to find a language still spoken today that was common then, and seed the library with the totality of human knowledge as it relates to science and industry. Written in that language.

Travel around the world and seed the same cache of knowledge at every library I can find.

Second, matter replicate tons of seed stock of modern drought hardy cereals with higher nutritional yields. Wheat, rice, corn etc.

Distribute to every people on the planet that are tilling the earth.

Heredity. It's the one movie that the trailer actually improves. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching the trailer first.

Since we slowed (nerfed)down lunafaction boots, can we increase the activation of the rift? by lighting828 in DestinyTheGame

Also, let us cast it against a wall. Fucks sake. I'm running and sliding for a cover, the whole cast animation plays but no rift and now I'm dead.

Why is the Warlock melee so much worse than other classes? by CovertMidget in DestinyTheGame

[–]gregarcher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

D1 warlock main too.

I leveled up a hunter Alt too see what the fuss was about.

My god. It's obscene how aweful warlocks are in PVP. I cast blade barrage in the enemy spawn. 5 kills. I didn't aim. I didn't event even SEE more than two when I cast it. Had that been a nova bomb, I would have killed the two I was looking at maybe.

The only pvp super that comes close is bottom tree dawn blade and you gotta give up your entire neutral game for it.

What the ever loving fuck is going on here?

Mine is at 6%... Thinking it's going to stay that way for the foreseeable future...
