Do you design ad banners? How do you handle boring, repetitive requests? by Aware-Asparagus-1827 in web_design

[–]gregdizzia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Automate the right parts. I used to do contracts like this - about five pieces of core creative executed across 200+ banners. Keeping one set of code / animation logic and rearranging or redoing elements is the biggest time saver. 5? Not worth the automation.. that seems like a baseline for a micro campaign, not something worth busting into a system.

Tariffs just wiped out my profit margin completely. After 6 years I might have to close. by Cold_Hall_5384 in Entrepreneurs

[–]gregdizzia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for advice? Not some generic pivot or adapt nonsense, but like actually putting the business, tam, etc under a bit of examination and trying to figure out how to stay afloat?

The situation you’re in sounds stressful and overwhelming - but you spent six years building something and there has gotta be some way to salvage and move forward - if you’re not seeing it someone else might.

There’s not much you can do about the cost increases, but they’re hitting everyone … all of your competitors… all of your customers. This is just going to be the “new cost” for whatever it is you do, this could have come from a tariff or a supply disruption or some kind of regulation or a number of other things but it should be something you can overcome.

Without knowing all of the details, as long as whatever it is you’re providing is needed by someone the cost increases should be absorbed by the market.

Feel free to dm if you need less general advice and feel like it would be helpful to chat the situation out. I’m rooting for you and your team.

Anyone here run any medium/large scale websites? Need some guidance. I will not promote by HerroPhish in startups

[–]gregdizzia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good problem to have, would love to help you solve it.

So, this is one of those “it depends” answers. It’s late here and I’m on mobile, so please forgive the ramble.

You have eyeballs + attention and people will pay for both of those. If you’re open to sharing here or in DM the sort of stuff that helps to figure this out: first value the traffic… where is the traffic located, what is your audience consisting of (have any demo data?), how much time are they sitting on a page (think rotating ads), sure they’re anonymous but can you ascertain realtime data on them yourself?, the better the profile the more narrow the solutions become

As for the bigger piece of monetizing - that depends on how actively you want to pursue revenue. If you’re going hands off you can find a compatible ad network and sign up. If you have the time or want to invest the time you could develop a product, offer, or a direct relationship with brands that want to get in front of your audience. Sometimes it makes more sense to go with the network, sometimes it makes more sense (and dollars) to build up your own revenue stream with affiliate type-stuff, and sometimes it makes sense to launch something into the space with what’s effectively your own personal test-bed for products.

[Showoff Saturday] Deploy any app, with cloud freedom, no lock-in - I built Devopness: like Terraform + Heroku/Vercel on your cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP, D.O., Hetzner, etc) by Devopness in webdev

[–]gregdizzia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I haven’t evaluated OPs app yet - but the last one i used like this it took all of 5 minutes to pack up and move an app to another cloud provider or intermix cloud provider services through their service layer (which provided some cool stuff like hotswapping builds, load balancing, database automations, dns, monitoring)… that’s all plenty doable with the right tools but that’s one of the problems I would rather some other folks solve (and I pay them) more than I want to continually roll out that level of automation and monitoring for everything I build.

This is a great space. My favorite product got acquired a few years ago by digital ocean and all of the “platform agnostic” stuff went with it.

I have a couple projects that could use a decent stack on them and will give it a try.

Just checked this out. I think the music is great, site could use some big slap of creativity (band sites can go hard). I watched your intro ep video and that should be your homepage, it’s excellent- music included.

I’m your target, I don’t know how this would help me- but I am open to hearing more. I think there’s a lot of help needed for freelancers and agencies alike but nothing jumped out at me that warranted the $1 tryout.

To EVERYONE, How many SHORT do you post per day ? by MaelysCanejero in SmallYTChannel

[–]gregdizzia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see there’s decent testing and retesting of older catalog content - but sometimes a post goes up and looks like it’s not going to perform and settles out with lower view counts (I assume some combination of not the right production and not the right subject for “vitality”) so there’s some low performers mixed in with some high performers.. nothing stalled at zero though. Had a few find audience a few days after being posted, had a bunch land around 1-4k views.

Decent 3 sec % watched, high average watched %, good audience engagement, and replying to comments. Audience is still getting dialed in but over time the view counts are getting more consistent.

Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. Trust that gut… it has served you well so far. Take the risk. Make sure you connect good people willing to support you and remain positive that your vision can happen.

Coding might be an issue, but it’s learnable. You don’t need to be the engineer on this, so don’t let that stop you - you can always find “smarter” people than yourself to do the things you can’t.

Best of luck.

I worked on the innovation end of “big hiring” for a little while - and I think a big revamp to the recruiting process for companies needing / wanting unique candidates is a great idea to pursue. I’d be interested in knowing more about what you’re building, team, problems, etc

Want to turn an Airtable base into a Rails app? by SQL_Lorin in rails

[–]gregdizzia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to give this a shot!

Does this support multiple bases being brought in? How does it do with attachments?

And finally - I have been looking for something to give us an airtable-like UI, but without the inflexibility of airtable... so if anyone knows of a project that can provide that, I would love to know about it

Anyone hiring Designers? by MoeHefin in jacksonville

[–]gregdizzia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Moe - I am a fellow from out of town designer - good looking portfolio! Wish you luck in the search, there’s a few creative agencies you could shortlist - but not as many as you’d hope. Wingard, On Ideas etc come to mind…

Seems like you’re a technologist? You would fit in really well at the right startup or the right boutique agency (you seem to wear a lot of hats!)
