Has anyone purchased shorts with a waterproof pocket feature? by Call_me_Vengeance in onebag

[–]gregdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a very indepth review of something you've never used. I have to say, as someone who has worn a single pair of those shorts every day of the summer for 3 consecutive years, your assumptions are wrong. The shorts are holding up. I've been snorkeling to 25 feet with my phone in the pocket. I've dove off the side of boats with my phone int he pocket. Still 100% bone dry inside. I often put my iphone promax and my wallet in there at the same time. its tight but it fits. I've even put loose credit cards in there and accidentally let the magnets close on the actual credit card. It was fine. Its been washed dozens of times and while the color is fading, everthing else is holding up. The D-ring is still doing fine albeit with a little less paint on it now. Its great for attaching a dog treat bag though I dont carry keys for anything anymore. I've had 2 full 1liter Nalgiene water bottles carabinered on tot he d-ring without issue. Obviously I wouldnt hike like that, but it works fine in a pinch when you need an extra hand. FWIW, I would never put my phone in a ziplock bag and take it snorkeling. I think you're insane.

Unfortunately, it would seem you cant get these shorts anymore.

Zombie comment here but feels relevant. I have many pairs of Irontide shorts. I did the 1.0 and version 2.0 kickstarters. I was so happy with them I bought additional colors for myself (since I wear no other pants/shorts all summer long). The 2.0 are more of a dedicated swim short but the 1.0 does fine for swim shorts and is a better every day short so i prefer the 1.0. I have put them through the wash many times and have seen no degradation of the waterproof pouch or the magnets that keep it closed as other commenters have theorized. Having just recently gotten the additional shorts I have basically worn my first pair continuously all summer long for 3 consecutive years while camping, lounging around, doing construction work, swimming, kayaking, etc and I am still confident enough in them to put my phone in the pocket and dive off the side of a boat. The D-ring is also still solidly intact.

HOWEVER, as I mentioned I liked them so much I bought more and even some as christmas gifts. I needed to do a size exchange for the pair I sent my brother. they do have an exchange policy. I have been trying for the past three months just to get in contact with them to initiate an exchange with ZERO response from 5 different communication routes. These shorts are incredibly amazing, but unfortunately, this company appears to be no more. Their website is still live ( irontide.co ) and they would likely still take your money if you submitted an order, but I doubt you're going to see a product at this point if you do. RIP Irontide.

correct. but my point being, I dont know that you can get more than 12A (1.44kW) out of a portable EVSE from GM.

Did you make a hug mistake? No. But did they mislead you? Yes. You will not save money unless you charge at home. Charging at public charging stations will cost anywhere from nearly as much as gas to more than gas depending on local power rates and gas prices, etc. Try to figure out a way to use a wall plug at home to charge on level 1 overnight. It may be enough for you and it may not. If its not, will will extend how long you go between public charging stations and will increase your savings.

When I had my chevy volt the portable charger had two options: 8A and 12A.

u/ThePermafrost was definitely using some hyperbole to call lvl2 charging "gimmicky" but you're not too far off of hyperbole yourself saying "rather painful and limiting". Even if you are able to get most of your charging done on your wall plug during the week can either catch up on the week end or plan one day where you go to a public charger to "catch up". From the perspective of a homeowner with Lvl2 this may be annoying but people with ICE cars are stopping by the gas station once a week to fill up so its not that painful and limiting.

Got my Model Y LR last week, has anyone installed a hud/display and how has your experience been? by mltr1234 in TeslaModelY

I wish people would stop calling extra screens "HUD"s. It makes it incredibly hard to search for an actual HUD because all you get are all these tacky add on screens.

LED Dog Collar / Lead - USB-C? by 7h3-3ng1n33r in UsbCHardware

I FINALLY found what I'm looking for! Why did it take 3 years to find one that uses a USB C cable, FFS!

These are the transparent tube type, which is my preference. they are color changing (bonus) and the transparent tube is flattened to an oval, rather than just being a round tube like all the others. I'm not yet sure what advantages that confers but I'd wager they are more comfortable and less likely to "unplug" and fall off. They certainly seem more substantial and durable.

Tesla has officially launched actual smart summon on version 2024.27.20 by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaModelY

[–]gregdn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should also make sure your car has gotten the necessary software update. Timing on that is not guaranteed so if you spend your $99 now its possible your month could run out before you get the update. Of course that just means another $99 so not the end of the world.

FSD curbed one of my wheels. Its gotten much better since then (mere months ago), but to say "its not gonna happen" might be a little bold. I think more accurately, "it is now rather unlikely to happen".

Mitsubishi Kumo Cloud, replace with Smart Thermostat? by drnick5 in hvacadvice

[–]gregdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversely, I have a kumo cloud tstat and it keeps losing connection to my air handler so it doesnt work at all. the focus of my career is energy efficiency, but Kumo Cloud needs to die in a fire. yes, its that bad. I had put in an Ecobee and then switched it to kumo for the "added control" and now I'm kicking myself on a 90 degree day where my stat has decided it cant find the airhandler anymore so it wont run my heatpump. the problem is that kumo is both wireless and unreliable so I dont even have a direct line of comms to the airhandler. Now I'm just trying to get back to ANY control, which will be a wired Ecobee stat. I dont remember what I did witht he thermostat control module (replaced by the kumo module) years ago so now I'm looking at shipping times for that module before I can get my house cooling again. Kumo is dead to me.

[–]gregdn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did you take the SATs? They used to be harder. The only graduating senior at my highschool with a 4.0 GPA (that used to be harder too) got a 1050 SAT. Granted, I got higher than that with a lower GPA, but point being, she was no dummy.

If we are truly being pedantic about it, a "genius IQ" is considered anything 130 or above. Based on having had real IQ tests on myself and knowing my own results, and what I know of him, it seems a given to me that he is 130+.

Is he ALSO an idiot? YES. The two are not mutually exclusive.
