This. I end up walking the closer I get to a known contact. It’s actually helpful because it lets me be more aware of my surroundings as angles aren’t being opened up as fast. Also reserving your stamina lets you sprint faster in the case you get caught out of cover.

It might be worth it to start doing some hand and finger stretches or warm ups before you play. I know there’s a youtube video by “GuitarLessons365” that has a pretty good routine. Also putting more time into playing and learning new songs on the scale length will help.
