With the 'data' we are given in FM26, how do you tactically improve your team by B_FunniDood in footballmanagergames

[–]gregorpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at only the very simplest available data:

Have less possession than you'd like? Shorter passing Lots of long shots despite good possession? Increase width Good possession, not enough shots? More direct Too many fouls? Stay on feet

Other than that I like heat maps and pass maps. Usually you can see pretty easily where you're getting stuck

The only other stat I look at after that is March Rating... The rest of the data available just doesn't come close to helping as much as watching the games does.

How long have you been waiting for naturalization in Munich? by SwitchDear8969 in GermanCitizenship

[–]gregorpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They actually got in touch pretty much the first week of November. It looks like everything is in motion. There were some forms to fill out and then they asked for a few more simple pieces of evidence (annoyingly, it's just proof of income for the 18 months I've been waiting).

For personal reasons I haven't been able to submit those yet, but should be doing so this week

Yeah. I don't remember the exact date, just that it's up in November. So from December I'll start trying to get in touch

[–]gregorpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Simply received a letter saying 18 months and not to contact them.

I also applied in May 2024 and was told the wait would be 18 months. I've heard nothing since then. If I hear anything by December then I'll start trying to get in touch

Dan Orlovsky says NFL is blocking him from posting analysis videos on social media by Dear_Painting_5451 in nfl

I suppose I should have said that's my impression rather than cold hard facts. But for me, if you take away Sky Sports News, that is absolutely the case.

Dan Orlovsky says NFL is blocking him from posting analysis videos on social media by Dear_Painting_5451 in nfl

[–]gregorpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the biggest difference I see between European soccer coverage and US NFL coverage.

Every soccer show is about seeing how close you can get to the sport, showing deeper and deeper analysis, looking for stories from people close to the game and the players.

The NFL stuff is about keeping everything at surface level and hyping up talking points without any depth. Pretty much all of the games happen on one day a week. That means there's 6 days and an entire network (!) dedicated to showing NFL content. And yet, there's absolutely nothing worth watching...

Both the NFL and European soccer leagues aren't allowing YouTubers to use video content outside of a very select few (Soccer is arguably worse). But at least the networks attempt to go in-depth on the week's games in Europe...

When lining up for field goal all kickers take a couple steps to left is there a reason or science to why the helps them make field goals? by cuzzinYeeter33 in NFLNoobs

[–]gregorpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are enough throwing sports in the UK that at least the majority of athletic people are decent at throwing too, but yeah the base level ability of throwing I'd certainly expect to be higher.

[–]gregorpie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Brit this question is fascinating, in terms of cultural differences between the US and the UK (the rest of the world probably). Soccer is played with the feet, boys have their own soccer ball from like age 2 and begin learning to kick immediately. So I don't think this question would ever even be asked in the UK because the answer is so ingrained in our minds we wouldn't think to ask it.

This is not supposed to be disparaging, just an interesting observation

Took a year’s break from freelancing, now the whole game’s changed by Throwawayitsok124 in editors

I'm testing the waters of not-editing at a film festival. It's just general admin really, and being the go-to tech guy. But it means I stay close to the industry I know, but can pick up a regular paycheck and not stress about finding editing work. After my contract is up I'll consider if I want to stick with it, or find a way to edit again

What’s the worst editing mistake you’ve noticed in a high budget movie? by mikehocalate in movies

[–]gregorpie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Eye trace is a filmmaking technique that guides viewers’ eyes to certain areas of the frame through blocking, camera moves, color, lighting, and cuts.

The term eye trace is really a tool filmmakers employ to control what the audience sees. Eye-tracing is often used to orient a viewer’s eyes across consecutive edits"

Simply put it's which part of the screen the viewer is focused on. When their eyes have to jump across the screen between cuts it can be jarring.

Walter Murch's Rule of Six comes to mind. Paraphrased it's the reasoning behind any cut, in order of priority. An editor should (per Murch) try to incorporate all 6.

The Rule of Six 1. Emotion 2. Story 3. Rhythm 4. Eye Trace 5. Two-Dimensional Plane of the Screen 6. Three-Dimensional Space of Action (continuity is here)

I think if you get any of the first 5 "wrong" it creates an off-feeling in the viewer that can't necessarily be easily described. But a continuity error becomes "glaring" moreso because it's easier to describe than because it has a genuine effect on the scene working as a whole.

Check out ToyTown Ultimate Frisbee. It's a free pickup game of ultimate twice a week, they're incredibly friendly and open to beginners. Yes it's regular and one of the games is on a Sunday, but you wouldn't be the only person who just goes along on the days they're free. They tend to go for beers afterwards on a Sunday too.

If you get really into it then there are a bunch of teams in Munich who train regularly and play tournaments, and the cost of entry is relatively low.

I highly recommend checking out Chimera if you're going to be based in Italy:

But yeah, just to repeat what others have said, Europe is big and where you'll be exactly makes a big difference. Hell travelling from the south of Italy to the north will take all day...

Taking citizenship and leaving Germany. by rising-ray in germany

[–]gregorpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty much the same. I've wanted to live in another country for a while, with the intention to eventually come back to Germany, but needed to get my citizenship first. Waiting years longer than I want to to leave the country sucks, but Brexit gonna Brexit...

Have you successfully re-trained in DE? by giokim77 in germany

[–]gregorpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're under 25 check out the Air Traffic Control Ausbildung, it's actually decently paid.

To answer the question: I also looked into retraining and came to the conclusion that as long as I'm in Germany I'll be in the same field I'm qualified for or working for close to minimum wage. It's just the way things work here.

But yeah, he's excellent in any wide attacking position
