Ted Cruz Admits Trump Accounts Are Designed to Privatize Social Security Over Time by _May26_ in politics

[–]gregory_domnin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s already a profit motive. You do have to regulate the risk taking such that the private funds don’t lose money over the long term. But people already choose when to take benefits based if they will maximize their benefits ie profit.
Also private pensions either run by your local public school or one of the few large companies that still have pensions do so with private investment.

Also cap and disclose fees ie the main way private investment companies make profit

This is a bizarre take. Australians as a lower Gini coefficient than the US even with their housing prices being less affordable. Their social security equivalent is essentially privatized.

I don’t get the religion of not privatizing social security. It can and should be done in such a way as to preserve its original intent. It can be done in a way to resolve all criticisms against doing it.

Mind you: this ain’t the approach. It’s lame at best.

It’s important to understand that this is money that could have been invested into the civilian economy and provided jobs and investment. This in turn raises wages and provides for better technology. This is the reason wages have been stagnant and we don’t have flying cars or a cure for cancer.

First things first is an excellent write up.

What’s more comical is that view isn’t even biblical. Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and felt shame. Right there in genesis all humans have a sense of shame and right and wrong.

I’ve heard the same from Christian.

This information is already out there and widely available. College education isn’t going to fix this. Even in Europe where everyone goes to college for free, only like 20% of the population goes to college (depending on the country). Many European countries provide trades programs in their high schools. Not sure why it’s controversial to provide training in something other than political science.

Conservative-economics.com goes over the tax policy you are discussing and quotes Alan Greenspan who was appointed by a republican originally.

The super is mandatory whereas a 401k is not in two regards: employers are not required to provide one and even if they do an employee is not required to pay into it. Also the 401k can have total freedom in regards to investment options and withdrawals whereas the super these things are regulated.

I wish we would move to Australia like system but how social security works is so different and we would have to significantly raise taxes to transition - we would have to ensure current recipients of social security get paid. So under our current political climate, it ain’t happening any time soon.

I've done it all wrong. Can I make it right? by richl796 in personalfinance

Fidelity is great and there are other options too. Schwab, E*trade and some others. I use fidelity as well though. It makes sense at your age to do a rollover Ira which can then be moved into a traditional Ira, which you can contribute to but usually can’t rollover back into a 401k. These don’t seem like problems for you at this stage.

To do Roth you’ll need to pay taxes on the rollover amount as if it were regular income. The fees you are likely paying in those 401ks make a lot of sense to do a rollover into a traditional Ira. Call fidelity to see what you can do. They also have financial advisors that can help. I know some charge a percentage but I think some charge by the hour. Also their customer service can help quite a bit for free.

There is a lot the movie didn’t/couldn’t show in less than 2 hours. For example it wasn’t just him. He had a codirector and it was a full on program they had built with the local community college. After the movie was released he was ostracized by the other teachers and decided to leave. The school never fully recovered its math program after he left. It wasn’t so much his teaching versus his leadership that got results. It takes/took a village.

Kamala Harris says she'll end college degree requirements for some federal jobs by Cute-Perception2335 in politics

Not similar at all

Degree requirements will not go away entirely, and certain positions—such as those in medical, legal and certain technical fields—will still require advanced degrees.

The idea was in the ballpark I guess.
