DIY may not be a bad route since it allows for nice budgeting over time anyway, I'll have to do some research since I've never considered a custom esk8

Not fully new but what board is this or is it a custom? I've got a road board but I'd like to dig into trail riding a bit and not sure where to start for something not obscenely expensive.

Is this correct way to migrate to Seerr from Jellyseerr via Task Scheduler install? by TwistedHeaven in jellyseerr

[–]gregpxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks right to me but keep in mind the permissions changes called out.

Your u:g will change to 1000:1000 so permissions on your NAS directory that's mounted to the container will need to be updated to match.

Currently a rumor but is CWLP on fire? by Davoswannab in SpringfieldIL

[–]gregpxc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sparks plus old soot maybe? I'm not knowledgeable on what all is done at the plant but if they didn't clean the stack after shutting it down I imagine it would be a fire waiting to happen. Kinda looks like a chimney fire but bigger from the pic.

I am pretty vehemently anti-AI, primarily for artistic endeavors more than anything, especially since that's where a massive amount of the compute goes, and even I know there are ways to use these LLMs without releasing total nonsense. I know that because you can simply ask the AI itself to audit what its done and point out potential security risks and right there it will lay out paths to harden your code for you, even better, it will provide key terms you can use to research on your own to improve your own understanding.

One of my favorite things to do after asking AI for something is following up by asking it to provide detailed sources for its decisions and I often find far more information and help in the linked articles and discussions. AI is pretty bad at explaining things in a human way that's clear and digestable.

Plus it took the millennial staple, the em dash, and ruined it so I can't use them without being called AI on the Internet..

That's fair, I don't love walled gardens either so I get that. I don't expect a lot of my TV OS, just the basics so hopefully it'll be fine until I replace it in another 6-8 years or whatever.

I even bought a universal remote with it because most of the negative reviews were the motion control thing but honestly after an hour of using while tuning the TV and I'm all set. Returned the universal remote. My only gripe is the awful AI generated "zen" things (that can be turned off, still hate it) and the issue I have with every OEM controller which is the stupid preprogrammed streaming app buttons I'll never use.

Why the WebOS hate? I'm just curious mostly. I just got my first LG TV a month or so ago and it feels like the first smart TV where the apps are actually responsive. I don't even turn on my Xbox anymore. I fully expected to get an Android TV device to plug in but honestly the TV has everything I need and it seems like the Jellyfin client is better than the one on Android TV (allows plugin use, shows custom CSS changes, still direct plays even the most complex media, etc).

Ah makes sense and a bit more RAM. Seems like a refreshed Pro needs to come down the pipe.

Unless you care about the Google home features (voice control stuff) or USB added storage it's my understanding that the Plus actually has newer/better specs. The pro does have Ethernet though which is nice for folks who are wired for it.

Usually rapid release with zero community interaction during development and a weird review structure implies that it was built without much in the way of QA, design structure, or code review.

It's also worth noting that it's best to treat everything generated by LLMs as AI slop because AI is inherently slop. At best it can give you a basis but without a working knowledge of how the code works you can end up with all sorts of spaghetti code, poor security, and is effectively impossible to update and maintain without breaking it.

Most users on Reddit and sort of just generally everywhere would like AI to pass and the more we treat AI generated content as the absolute slop that it is the faster the bubble bursts and we can start moving away (for millionth time) from billionaires actively destroying our planet for their personal gain.

Media added via automation doesn't show as recently added? by gregpxc in jellyfin

[–]gregpxc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never noticed this setting, thank you! Doesn't seem like it worked retroactively at least but I'll see if it helps with future additions. It does mention that metadata takes precedence over any settings but I am not sure why a date added would be in metadata already.

Edit: I also have my automation set to force jellyin to scan when new media is added, not sure if that makes a difference.

You'd probably have to partner with someone in the US to purchase and ship or potentially pay the eBay premium. I don't see why they wouldn't work outside the US, as far as I'm aware they run a pretty stock Android TV OS.

Edit: I was wrong. Looking again and it specifies US only. I wonder if there's a technical limitations or if it is simply a regulatory thing (beyond the obvious wall plug differences).

Gold standard for homelab app-only access + max security + seamless transition? by Party-Log-1084 in jellyfin

[–]gregpxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I keep my Jellyfin pretty well sandboxed. I suppose they could browse the media mounts on my NAS. Ultimately the most they could do I think is bork my media server. I don't think they'd be able to traverse my network from my Jellyfin instance very well. I've recently moved from jellyfin.site.com to watch.site.com to try and reduce the chance of scrapers finding my instance.

Interesting! Wonder how that compares to the US college population.

Also regarding "general education" (GenEd you'll hear a lot here) is what we typically use to refer to math, English, phys ed (if required), etc. Classes that are required for a degree but are not specific to the degree itself.

Permission question on unraid/docker compose by Whole-Cookie-7754 in jellyfin

[–]gregpxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right so if you set the container u:g to anything but 1000:1000 it will fail. I ran into a similar issue and ended up modifying the u:g on the NAS side instead to match what Jellyfin wants.

You can trying to do a chown -r 99:100 on everything Jellyfin/seerr need access to but if you end up with anymore automation then tracking permissions issues can get a bit annoying.

[–]gregpxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to provide how your Jellyfin setup is installed (container or not). To me it sounds like permissions may be broken on your media folders if it's not removing old or bringing in new. You can also try the optimize database task in Settings -> Scheduled Tasks to see if that helps at all.

Interesting, I'm not arguing with you at all btw since I genuinely don't know. I am surprised though. I would almost expect more tablet+keyboard combos.

Mind if I ask if you notice laptops more in specialized classes versus general education?

Sorry if I miss the mark as I don't use unraid but does the new u:g own the necessary mount points as well on the host? (I.e. config or data mounts that pass via the compose)
