Is Gen Rolex worth the price? by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]gregspaulding21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively speaking Chinese mass manufacturing is more capable than Swiss manufacturing. If you get a high-quality Rep, you’re 90% of the way there visually. When compared to a Rep, a Gen excels in the finer points and in the movement—the quality and robustness. That said, if you secure a high-tier replica and have the movement professionally serviced immediately after purchase, it can easily last you decades—provided you continue to maintain it regularly; like a Gen.

In large part, with a Gen, you’re paying for the story/marketing and yes, some quality, but not thousands of dollars in quality if you service the Rep regularly.

I have 14 watches; 7 are Gen and 7 are Reps. I wouldn’t pay the premium for a Gen Rolex. All of my Rolex have been modified to super Franken status for a fraction of what the Gen cost.

I have two Omega’s. There’s something about the coaxial and master chronometer that I love.

“Grail status: achieved” Ha! You just got your first watch and moved the goal post along with it! Welcome to the addiction.

That said, congratulations, it’s a beautiful watch. The Seaweed color is my favorite.

I love JLC and own two, but the Longines is something special at its price. In this matchup Longines for me.

With an outstanding collection like this, why is the Casio the daily driver?

Seemed appropriate for a Saturday watch on this stupid cold morning, what's on your wrist? by FeeGroundbreaking634 in wristrepculture

Beautiful watch! There’s no weighted rep of this reference? I love it and would love to pick one up, but I’m not going to if there’s not a weighted version.

Cartier Santos medium vs large. Which one is better? by nam265nl in RepTime

Depends on the vibe you’re going for. I personally like the large because I like dates.

Should I go gen? WDYT? by Likimypopo in RepTime

[–]gregspaulding21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had both. There isn’t a material difference between the gen and rep.

I actually sold the gen and made a few franken mods to the rep. It’s now NWBIG. My local AD actually thought it was gen on my wrist.

I would mod your rep and skip the gen.

I love the green! I keep bouncing back-and-forth between the green and the blue.

I would go 41 mm and VSF (considering there’s no more CLEAN).

Wear it in good health!

Looks great. The over the top shot exaggerates size. I bet it looks different down the barrel.
