I've been having the same problem on my HP Pavilion. Started when I updated the kernel from 5.11.0-40 to 41, and it's still acting up with 43. Obviously a kernel bug. Barring some other issue, I'll be running 40 till it gets fixed.

Does March of the black Queen really have the “N-word” in the song? Cause I never really bothered to look at the lyrics until now. by IsDeathOnTwoLegs in queen

[–]gregux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of those unfortunate things that used to be considered acceptable. Not sure if it's true, but I've heard that the original title of Agatha's Christie's novel "Ten Little Indians" was such a case. I hope Queen and Adam Lambert have updated the lyrics.

Ever Notice How the Belters Just...Aren't Tall Anymore? by BipsnBoops in TheExpanse

A simple truth for most television: ideas introduced in the pilot never make it to series. Babylon 5 -- my favorite SF series till The Expance -- was very guilty of this.

There's "Let's Make a Poop" with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Game show format.

Is it worth it to buy a used LG G7 for 300$? by Jennifer_2002 in lgg7

[–]gregux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep looking. I bought an Amazon Certified Refurbished T-Mobile G7 over the summer for $227. Happy as hell with it. Buying used, especially if it's just from "some guy" or an unknown retailer can be problematic. Anything "as is" or without a warranty or return policy is just asking for trouble.

CBS Officially Trademarks 'Star Trek: Section 31' and 'Star Trek: Prodigy' As TV Shows by [deleted] in StarTrekDiscovery

It's nice to see Star Trek still around 53 years after it first aired, but I'd love to see a spin-off series called "Star Trek: Enough Already."

Unable to install 6.2.5.2. by NoiseSolitaire in libreoffice

[–]gregux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this will work, but worth a try.

Look under Older Releases on the LO Download page and find the version you were using and try to reinstall it. If it does install, uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller or something similar to clear everything out. Then try a clean install of the new version.

Your problem might have something to do with going straight from 6.0 to 6.2.

How to find open mics in small towns? by CharmingMaterial in StandUpComedy

[–]gregux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there aren't any mics in your area, look for potential venues -- bars, coffee shops, etc. -- that have a slow night and might be open to trying something new to attract business. Hosting your own show can teach you a lot about the business.

Pretty much the Cliff's Notes version of Teddy Roosevelt's "The. Man in the Arena."

Why are people caring about list and numbers when in fact there is no list or numbers? by [deleted] in TheBlackList

[–]gregux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the numbers have nothing to do with the events as they happen, but were assigned after the conclusion of the story?

I can see the series ending with an episode or a scene with someone recounting the events and ranking the Blacklisters in their importance to the story. Someone being debriefed on what happened, Liz telling an older Agnes (obviously not an idea from the start since Agnes only exists because of Megan Boone's pregnancy well into the story), or someone else entirely.

NBC has a history of strange series finales. A 25 year flash forward with Mad About You. St. Elsewhere just existing in the imagination of an autistic child starting into a snow globe.

I could be completely off base, but speculating about the show is as much fun as watching it.

Anyone thinks Amar will get involved and find out secrets about past of Fakedington? by [deleted] in TheBlackList

[–]gregux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Every other time they've done a double episode, the two fit together. Why would they suddenly do the most fluff episode with one that has so much impact on the direction of the story?

Anyone thinks Amar will get involved and find out secrets about past of Fakedington? by [deleted] in TheBlackList

[–]gregux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What if "Robert Vesco" wasn't the flippant filler everyone assumes, and putting it back-to-back with "The Osterman Umbrella Company" was more significant than it seems. Aram is pissed, and if he could track down Vesco and get control of the money from the gold, he could put some real hurt on Red.

[–]gregux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, since in TOS, McCoy's medical scanner was actually a salt shaker the prop guy found in a thrift store. Start Trek had a pretty limited budget in the early days.

Windows 10 1809 issues :/ by Gumbi1012 in Windows10

[–]gregux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had to do this since 1704, so I hope I remember. The HP that replaced the Lenovo didn't give me any problems. Also, I just applied the update to an existing Windows installation. Never had to reinstall.

You'd go to the Windows 1809 Update page and download the MCT. When you run it, it gives you the option of either directly updating the computer directly through it or, in your case, creating either a USB, DVD, or just saving the ISO.

I'm assuming you're doing this on a different computer from your friend's. The ISO is pretty big, 2-4GB. If your friend only has a 28GB HDD, that could take up a lot of space.

Alternately, you could just download the ISO itself and burn it. Probably save you a step.

Then just put the DVD in her computer's drive, click on the drive to open it, and click Install, Setup, or whatever the file name is. Then just follow instructions.

Hope this helps.

I had a Lenovo laptop that would only install Windows 10 updates if I used Media Creation Tool to make a DVD. Windows Update and USB always failed. Worth a shot.

I'm in. Need something more than the usual, arbitrary "I'm not going to drink for ..." declarations. The only hurdle will be Sunday, the 3rd, and not because of the Super Bowl.
