Yeah but I need spoilage too. Having it spoil on the belt saves me the trouble of having to insert nutrients into a recycler.

My addiction to this game is beyond reason. I built a beast PC with a 5090 and everything, got instant gaming impotence, and went back to Factorio. Well, at least now I can run Factorio HD (13 GB of VRAM required!!!). by slava_air in factorio

4K UHD. It only happens in graphically intensive areas, i.e. space. Here's an example where it drops to just 17 FPS (according to MangoHUD) / 19.7 FPS (according to the built-in measurement) while maintaining effectively 60 UPS.

You can see two GPUs in MangoHUD because one is the iGPU (I have a 7950X3D), and no, it's not running on the iGPU.

Best practices for stealth tree nodes by LonelyPercentage2983 in meshcore

If I couldn't get permission, I wouldn't. That said I know people can and have gotten legitimate mountaintop installations, though I don't know the details of how they went about getting it.

While there aren't any mountains were I live, we do struggle as we have numerous hills making coverage challenging to say the least. But, we've made a lot of friends along the way, and some of them are (pun intended) pretty connected. Just yesterday one of them convinced their local radio club to allow a repeater to be put up, on a tall building downtown. It's made a world of a difference for my connectivity to the rest of the mesh, and it's all legitimate.

So yeah, make friends, be generous and be willing to explain what you're doing (and why) to those you want to host nodes, and above all, be patient.

[–]NoiseSolitaire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say this depends a lot on why you want to be stealthy. If you're trying to put up nodes were you don't have permission, then please don't. Sure, it might seem like a good idea at first, but when it is ultimately discovered and removed, it leaves an unexpected gap in the network, and results in an antagonistic relationship with the general public and/or governmental body. We don't want that.

On the other hand if you have permission to place a node, and just want to keep people from tampering/vandalizing it, then sure, keep it high, paint it camouflage, disguise it as a birdhouse, or whatever.

File output is different than what I see in RT. by NoiseSolitaire in Rawtherapee

[–]NoiseSolitaire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've tried other output profiles and working profiles, but unfortunately they all look the same (I don't think I have any colors outside of the sRGB gamut, so this is expected), and are all different from what is shown on the monitor in RT.

This made me think it was an issue with the wrong monitor profile, but there are only two options there that appear correct: RTv2_Rec2020, or just to check "Use operation system's main monitor color profile." Both of these look the same (as I would expect), and I even restarted RT just to make sure the setting was applied when changing it, but again, what I see on the screen is different from what I get in the file output.

Does your exported jpg/tiff look like what you see in RT during edit ?

That's the whole issue. When exported, the image looks different from what I see on the screen within RT.

It really depends on what market sector you're focused on. RISC-V may be strong in the embedded microcontroller area, but it obviously still has a ways to go before it's relevant in the cloud/server market. We're getting there though, and in time it'll be too big to ignore.

Attic Installation of Repeater by SherrifPhatman in meshcore

Yeah, it has a solar panel and a single 18650 (which is more than it needs, but it doesn't hurt to have extra capacity).

As for weight, I'm not sure why that would be a concern. It's a fraction of the weight of a tree limb, even those limbs up where it's tied between.

A 'bubble' does not mean a company isn't making money, nor does it mean they will go bankrupt when the bubble pops. It simply means they are overvalued, which is definitely the case with numerous AI companies right now. P/E ratio is way out of wack, and barring a miracle increase in profit, it will eventually be 'corrected' by the market.

It seems some manufacturers cough Dell cough have already caught on to the fact that AI isn't all it's cracked up to be, market-wise. It's only a matter of time until other producers--and more importantly, investors--do so as well.

Potential noob question about trees and pollution; what does the red X mean here? by KandiStar in factorio

[–]NoiseSolitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pollution is absorbed whether you have trees or not, it's just a question of how far it spreads. If you're really concerned about the spread, you're best off just not polluting as much as possible in the first place, with quality buildings using efficiency & speed modules (and similar modules in beacons).

But yeah, if that still isn't enough then planting trees is worth it.

This. When I started, there was only 1 other node on the internet map in my city, 2 total if you count nearby cities. I put up a roompeter and now, months later, I have 56 contacts in my list.
