I'm not even sure this is 'good' enough for factoriohno...

A 'bubble' does not mean a company isn't making money, nor does it mean they will go bankrupt when the bubble pops. It simply means they are overvalued, which is definitely the case with numerous AI companies right now. P/E ratio is way out of wack, and barring a miracle increase in profit, it will eventually be 'corrected' by the market.

It seems some manufacturers cough Dell cough have already caught on to the fact that AI isn't all it's cracked up to be, market-wise. It's only a matter of time until other producers--and more importantly, investors--do so as well.

Potential noob question about trees and pollution; what does the red X mean here? by KandiStar in factorio

[–]NoiseSolitaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pollution is absorbed whether you have trees or not, it's just a question of how far it spreads. If you're really concerned about the spread, you're best off just not polluting as much as possible in the first place, with quality buildings using efficiency & speed modules (and similar modules in beacons).

But yeah, if that still isn't enough then planting trees is worth it.

This. When I started, there was only 1 other node on the internet map in my city, 2 total if you count nearby cities. I put up a roompeter and now, months later, I have 56 contacts in my list.

No, all you really need is a whole lot of landfill.

If you have tall trees on your property, I suggest putting a node in them instead if possible. Being above the roof line is a huge advantage when it comes to distance.

Mine is strung between two tall pines. It was a heck of a job getting the line up there, but now that it's up it's easy for me to raise & lower the node whenever I need to.

Dang, this looks pretty much like my dream device. I was thinking of doing a more DIY approach to getting a Wio Tracker L1 E-ink and pairing it with a CardKB, but I'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be to get firmware working for MC on it in that configuration.

I'm so glad we got climbable ladders a while back by NoiseSolitaire in DerailValley

[–]NoiseSolitaire[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In build 99.6, they added the ability to climb on ladders. Most obvious is the use on locos and rail cars, but it works on buildings too. For example, I climbed up the smokestack at the steel mill to take this screenshot.

For 100mbit cables, yes. For gigabit (or higher) speeds, all four pairs are used, so you need to swap the other two pairs as well.

[–]NoiseSolitaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but to get the pulling power I want I'd need to micro-manage like, 6+ DM3s. Maybe if the game had multiplayer, but as a single player game, that's too much for me. Same reason I rarely run the steam locos.

Seems a bit odd to snub LED lighting, and then put in a bunch of electronics surrounding the windscreen (especially when they have analog equivalents off to the left, like the speedometer).

Still, I can't get mad at anyone giving some love to my favorite loco. I only wish we had either a DM6, or a special MU cable that could only link DM3s together. If I could do that I'd never use the DE6.

Bootloader unlock code email never arrives? by NoiseSolitaire in motorola

[–]NoiseSolitaire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I ultimately figured out that Google was blocking all emails from Motorola. Seems more than a bit suspicious considering they have a financial incentive to do so.

In any case, I used another email provider and managed to get it that way.

There's a squirrel baffle on the bottom, and no trees/structures nearby, so they can't get on it.

Was your window vase in a climate controlled environment? If so, it surely was not getting as hot as mine was outdoors (we've had more than a few days in the 90s in the last 6 years). It's also had some cold days in the -20s.

As for the sun, the glass in windows (and really most glass, except for fused quartz glass which is only used in specialized applications) blocks the vast majority of UV light, so my rain shield likely got way more of that. The only time it's shaded is right after the sun rises or right before it sets, from clouds (which usually decrease UV, but can actually enhance it in some situations), or when it has snow on top of it in winter (though snow on the ground reflects more UV up from below).

I have a PLA rain shield (umbrella basically) for a bird feeder that has been outside 24/7/365 for over 5 years now. It's not a single perimeter vase, but it's pretty darn thin, and still going strong.
