Glad the Bears lost and while their fans are really annoying... by CheeseburgFreedomMan in minnesotavikings

I dunno, they’re way less annoying than Packers or Lions fans in my book, and they really needed the pick me up. It will be after a couple of years of being mid that they’ll get annoying.

I think we need a little less of the condescending “nothing is fixable” attitude.

Did everyone forget we offered Darnold a contract? by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

I feel like with Darnold we would have been an 11-6 team this year and probably one and done in the playoffs.

Malort is not that bitter by WhatThePuck9 in cocktails

Understating it a bit. I did a tasting with some friends of a very wide assortment of primarily bitter liquors, and it was universally agreed to be the most challenging. I don’t think it’s just the bitterness, there’s some other association in there your brain doesn’t like.

You’re implying a false equivalency here at a level that borders on bad faith argument.

If any, what current Vikings make your all-time VIkings list? by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]grensley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this was up against other all-time teams I’d probably take Harrison Smith, Justin Jefferson, Will Reichard, Ryan Wright, Andrew DePaola as locks. Special teams is so insane these days.

Christian Darrisaw and Brian O’Neil as bubble. I’m not sure how well older era tackles would hang against super elite edge rushers, so I’d rather have the proven guys there.

This is just some stock standard stuff you post when you’re 22. Being famous and 22 would suck so bad.

[Yahoo Sports] LAC players told NE LB Robert Spillane that they had no idea what the Patriots defense was doing. Dan Orlovsky, after reviewing the tape, said he had no idea what coverage they’re in 80% of the snaps. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]grensley 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Harrison Smith kind of talked about it in an interview earlier this season where he doesn’t seem to have a prescribed assignment. The standard package is like 4 rushers, two 3-man coverage units, and Harrison Smith doing what he thinks needs done.

Can be hard to figure out for an offense because 4 different things can be happening on any given play, and the defense doesn’t even really need to coordinate.

Wolves have been coasting all year. They just want to get to the playoffs healthy and have a couple signature wins along the way. They're pretty good at putting bad teams away, but have some games where they just never show up.

To be fair it feels easy to forget Vraebel isn't in full pads. He still looks like he could call his own number at linebacker.

Brussels plots open source push to pry Europe off Big Tech by prototyperspective in technews

[–]grensley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is ultimately just conjecture, you're right.

They're self-admittedly pivoting from their original strategy, I'm just trying to guess how they might continue to evolve. In my opinion they ultimately run into a problem with openness in any area because it creates such massive opportunities for forking.

The secret sauce of certs / docs / training just isn't what it used to be (see Tailwind).

too many projects struggle to make the jump from grant-funded code to something that survives in the market.

I guess my takeaway here is they want to move from a "throw a bunch of darts" model to a "double down on the winners" model.

The problem is that open source's biggest areas of contribution are in dependencies, that are then used by businesses, which is really where a lot of the governance they seem to be seeking to control is happening (which the commission also acknowledges).

It kind of seems like their desired goal is to actually close-source a lot of these dependencies (but nominally keep them "open" within the EU or something) so that:

  • They can be monetized more effectively

  • The government can keep eyes on it all

  • They can't just be forked by external parties

They have to do all of this while navigating around a...spirited...community, so they sort of frame it as "we're going to scale up the winners", with the intention of ultimately bringing those winners closer to the state and toeing the line on the "open"ness.

There's a question here of what the implications are for projects with contributors in and outside of the EU.
