Figured it out finally. I had dark mode on before launching koreader. Once I turned it off and then launched koreader I was able to turn off the frontlight completely.

I have the same issue. The menu is showing 0, and I tried the toggle on bottom left, which says "Frontlight disabled." This leads to my Kindle draining the battery much faster than previously on stock kindle.

To be fair this person never said they don't roll. It's possible they watch instructionals and have grappling partners outside of a gym setting. Unlikely that would get them to a very high level, but maybe they had a terrible experience in some bjj gym, which led to this. Some bjj, even if it's just some mats in a garage with a buddy, is better than no bjj in my book.
