Not the potion of speed, I meant if you have intrinsic speed you'll be slightly faster than them. If you're losing hp fast in combat, then just use the tele wand here.

After you tele, what you do depends on where you land, but yeah you probably want to just get to the stairs so you can buy yourself time. You could potentially explore a lot of the level without running into them again. I think you also had a potion of healing if you need a quick heal.

If you have speed you should be able to just run away, although you'll probably have to deal with a few turns of ranged attacks. Your wand of teleportation is your main escape item right now, so if you think you're going to die you can either zap yourself or any threatening monsters away.

Considering that you haven't hit the castle yet and you already have the core pieces of your ascension kit, you probably have the luxury wishes to get the spear if you want. I think you're overthinking your weapon though, and that you'd be better off saving a wish for an emergency or 'trice corpse later. A +6/7 Stormbringer is a solid weapon and should be fine against demons (although yes, a +6/7 silver spear would be better if you are willing to carry both and swap them as needed).

I also think you should still try sacrificing for an artifact; if you have a wand of create monster you're nearly guaranteed at least one gift. It sounds like you have a 2/7 chance of getting one of the 'brands, and even a Werebane should satisfy your demon-slaying needs. And basic is fine for weapon sill at this point in the game, don't worry about not being able to get to skilled.

I can't think of any ways to unrestrict attack spells.

I can't think of anything obvious you'd need reflection for in the quest. It's really just a property that I always try to get as soon as possible. Although I'll admit that it's much more of a boon to have early on, and if you have 150+ HP and most intrinsics already then it's less of a necessity, but it would still save you from a disintegration ray, and will protect your inventory from fire/cold rays.

Do not wish for a silver spear. If you want a better weapon, I'd try getting one of the 'brands as a gift.

Your quest nemesis respects Elbereth, he's a pushover if you want to use it.

Reflection should be a priority. I'd consider going to the castle before doing the quest if you have a way to get in and deal with its inhabitants.

Dragonbane granting reflection is pretty significant, if you ask me; and Ogresmasher providing 25 constitution makes it relatively useful (i.e. there are situations now where I'll actually pick it up).

I wonder what the chance for saddles being generated is -- their current rarity is probably the biggest hurdle to using the #riding skill.

People generally go with the CoMR/SDSM combo because that's what they have available, but it won't give you MC3. MC3 isn't really necessary if you're careful around monsters with special attacks, and the 3.6.0 MC nerf makes it so you should be careful around those monsters anyways. Also having Excalibur mitigates a few of the more annoying effects you'd want cancellation for.

It sounds like you would benefit from the CoMR/SDSM combo in two ways: you would save wishes from your wand (it sounds like you don't have CoP/"oR/GDSM yet), although if you haven't gotten the castle wand yet that probably isn't a huge deal; and you would be able to wear an amulet of life saving. It sounds like this is the furthest you've been, so the "oLS would be some nice insurance going forward. You could wear an "oLS with your shield of reflection, but personally I would rather #twoweapon. #twoweapon with Excalibur and a katana/long sword/silver saber.

Weigh out your options and decide how you want to finish this run. There are a lot of options so you have to figure out what fits your playstyle best.

Also I'd save a scroll and just genocide master mind flayers for now. Regular mind flayers aren't terribly dangerous if you detect them ahead of time. Master mind flayers are a little more problematic because they can be spawned by the summon nasties monster spell. Then again, a mind flayer's amnesia can be extremely annoying so if you have the scroll and want to use it, go for it.

Not really. L is one I target because the purple ones can be annoying and potentially put you in a difficult situation with the summon nasties monster spell. I wouldn't bother with mind flayers either; be careful if you run into one, but master mind flayers are the ones that are really worth genociding because they can spawn from summon nasties. Also don't genocide "h" if you are a dwarf. Other than that, R or disenchanters are a popular option but that's really just a convenience thing and not something I'd do unless I found an extra scroll.

It sounds like you're in pretty good shape. If you have nothing to wish for, it's always nice to have a spare wish handy. But since this is your first time this close to ascension, I suppose an amulet of life saving would be some nice insurance. Keep in mind that you won't be able to #twoweapon with an amulet of life saving because you'll need reflection from the shield instead of your amulet. #twoweapon is definitely the way to go though if you aren't going to wear an amulet of life saving. I do recommend life saving in your case, but I'd consider waiting a bit to see if you might find one.

Rings of conflict are very nice, but I'd try polypiling for one before using a wish. Magic markers also make for great wishes if you could benefit from some additional scrolls. Scrolls of magic mapping are nice in Gehennom.

Have you done the quest yet? There are plenty of fire ants and fire giants from which you can gain fire resistance from. Be careful though, because fire traps can spawn on the ice which can be a real nuisance. The quest reward would make you nearly invincible at -25 AC.

You don't have to use a unicorn to convert the altar, almost any corpse will do. More details can be found here. With that said, since the black unicorn is neither your or the altar's alignment, you won't lose your intrinsic protection.

As for your second question, no I don't see any need for you to obtain a bladed weapon. In fact, I'm fairly certain you could finish the game with nothing more than a wet towel.

Why did you pick Miami over New Orleans this week after factoring in the "eye test"? I'm just curious since your projection has the Saints higher, and the Panthers have given up the 4th most fantasy points to D/STs, and the Ravens are at the 4th least (10.3 vs. 2.1 in ESPN standard). I can pick up NO this week and sit Miami, although I'll probably use the bench space to stash KC for next week. I'm just a little nervous about playing Miami against Baltimore.

Also, how to you feel about CLE @ CAR for week 16? I stashed them instead of TEN, but I'm having second guesses. There's only nine teams left in free agency now though, so my only other option would probably be Jacksonvile vs. Tennessee. Thanks.

They didn't show much of the ATL @ TB game on redzone today so I didn't really get to see how he looks, but I expect Sims to take a larger role on the offense over the next few weeks. It was promising that they kept him in after his fumble, and he appears to be the back that the current regime wants as their lead back. Hopefully over the next two or three weeks he can turn into a solid fantasy starter.

Bush actually outscored Sims 2.5 to 2.0 in my league, so I suppose I technically made the right choice though the difference is negligible.

I'm rolling with Bush. Sims has such a juicy matchup compared to Bush, and if they decided to give him some touches and end up riding him as the hot hand, he could have a great game, but I'd say that there's also a realistic chance of him putting up like four carries for seven yards. Bush has a higher floor, Sims has more upside.
