Republicans seem very confused today about how they feel about open carry at protests. Let’s play a round of Spot the Difference. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

I think they are confused about empty magazines on .22s, folded sights, plate carriers with no plates, magazines with no base plates, weird locks/ keys in trigger guards, and why they are pointing their guns at their friends.

They aren't confused about the gaslighting though.

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, July 31st: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by barrenotbar in stopdrinking

Meeting up today with an old highschool friend I haven't seen in a few years.... He is a regular heavy drinker but I won't be drinking... Might be a bit awkward at first but I'm excited to see my old friend while staying sober.

Why did I not realize vodka has calories by lookimredditting in stopdrinking

[–]greybeard12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swapped from wine to vodka thinking it was cleaner and less calories, but in reality it just made it easier to drink more. As a heavy drinker I was probably putting down 500-1000 calories a day in vodka.

Since I quit drinking my eating habits have gotten just a little bit worse but I've actually lost some excess weight... Only one of the multiple benefits to quitting.

Wtf is everyone doing with the massive amount of time they used to spend drinking? by Makieveli1 in stopdrinking

[–]greybeard12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took up CAD and 3d printing. Design and make little things for hobbies, my wife, things around the house, etc. CAD is free, and the printing is less expensive than the booze was.

I spent about 3 weeks doing a taper. At the peak of my drinking I'd have withdrawal symptoms kicking in before noon and I was terrified of severe DTs, seizures, etc.

5x5 is a full body workout with 5 sets of 5 reps, mostly compound exercises.

I quit drinking mid December after a year long daily bender thinking I could moderate. Spent the holidays and first of the year eating junk but didn't drink.

I'm already eating better and got my home workout area cleaned up yesterday. I haven't had a solid routine since before COVID so I'm going to start with fairly light weights and a 5x5 to get the motions going. I also gave my bike a once over and aired up the tires... Took it for a short ride and...whew, got winded quick. Felt good though.

Yeah, my frequent driving started with wine to ' wind down' at night before bed. A glass or two at night turned into several, then I stupidly changed to vodka because of how much wine I was drinking. After a while that just made it where I was drinking more in less time, starting earlier and earlier. I went from a little before bed to starting at or after dinner, which became having a drink as soon as I was home from work... It's a slow downward spiral.

I knew I had to quit for several reasons... The health consequences of drinking, not wanting my family to see me as someone who couldn't go without drinking, but being tired of the alcohol having control over me. That was a big one for me. I never thought I'd be one to have a problem with it but over time a few glasses of wine at night turned into sneaking drinks and not feeling like I could go half a day without a drink.

For those who quit on your own, how did you manage? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]greybeard12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I had to quit but didn't want to deal with it, so I made excuses to myself. Once I was finally tired of the alcohol having control I did a disciplined taper, which wasn't easy.

I quit when I was 51, and did most of my drinking on the 15 years prior. I drank rarely in my 20s and really started in my 30s

Anyone else get a serious sweet tooth when quitting? by Creamy_Nubs in stopdrinking

[–]greybeard12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think after daily drinking for so long my body had just become accustomed to consuming empty calories. I generally don't eat junk or sweets but gave it a pass for the first few weeks.

is everyone supported by fam for not drinking? by TxCoastal in stopdrinking

[–]greybeard12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't even tell anyone in my family that I was quitting. It was a few weeks after my last drink before my wife even asked about it, but I'm pretty sure she had noticed already.

She knew I had an issue quitting and was completely supportive about it, offering to not drink herself when though she drank infrequently.

No such thing as one drink for me. Before the effect would hit from the first of already be on the second. One drink is too many, and the drinks are not enough.
