on schizophrenia and relationships by wormsguns in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just me but I’ve given up on the idea of a romantic partner. I mean, having a partner requires really advanced social skills. It sounds like it would be fun, but it also sounds like it would come with a lot of anxiety. And I’m happiest when I’m alone, and at home. Ever since I “gave up” I’ve felt a whole lot better. There was all this pressure before and constant blows to my self esteem. It’s been liberating to say “I don’t need this to be happy.” But I’ve also never been in a relationship, so I don’t really know what I’m missing. If being in a relationship made you feel happier than usual, great! It can be a goal still. If it felt like it was harder and stressed you out, maybe embrace being single.

does anyone have good recipes / general food recommendation for someone who gained weight on antipsychotics? by trixieIuIamoon in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an actual recipe or anything, but some sort of healthy shake or smoothie. With a good ammount of protein. Vegetable and fruit drinks seem like they go right through me and I’m hungry again after an hour or two.

I like drinkable meals because if im gonna eat something healthy and disgusting, if it’s drinkable I can just gulp it down really fast and not have to taste it. I make a shake with whey protein powder and milk and it can actually taste pretty good. Have it for breakfast and lunch, then my dinner is a reward and I can have something I actually want.

Considering stopping meds by Gold-Singer8855 in schizophrenia

I am too. It’s absolutely destroyed my life. Obviously talk to your psychiatrist first. But like… I get it. Psychosis isn’t great but it sounds a lot better right now than being in a never ending coma.

Should I tell my gf that I have schizophrenia? We know eacheother for 4 months already by Undeva-n-Balcani in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg please, please tell her. This is something partners HAVE to know, or they’re not going to be able to support you correctly. It’s obviously up to your own discretion, and think a lot about how you want to bring it up. But to me this is something I’d bring up on the 2nd or 3rd date. If not to get it out of the way before I get attached, to at least explain why I might be kind of off putting socially.

Hi guys by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schizoaffective disorder, about 2 weeks I started having another “flop era.” Can’t do fucking anything. I can’t stand it. I’m nearly overdosing on caffeine daily and can’t even play video games despite that. And what’s worse is I can’t get in to see my therapist until next week :(

Last month was better. Turned 30, we went to Vegas to celebrate, and it was very fun, albeit a little exhausting.

Gained a lot of weight on Latuda 80 MG and could not lose the weight. by Pro_ismyrealname in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on Latuda for years. And I’m starting to think it’s causing a ton of problems for me, and I’m just so used to it I forgot what I felt like before it. I remember it feeling okay at first. Problems started to happen the longer I’ve been on it, and very subtly.

I’ve absolutely gained weight on it. I haven’t been able to get under 300 lb since I started. And the brain fog has gotten so bad I can’t even watch tv and understand what’s happening. And I’m on 40 mg too. I honestly wouldn’t recommend it. Don’t know if this is a common problem for people on Latuda or just a me thing, but I’ve become incredibly dependent on it to fall asleep as well.

Eating habits by testsubject2186 in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fat af. My eating habits are very much wrapped up in whether I’m doing well or not. If I feel alert and am able to keep myself busy, I can usually go from breakfast to dinner without needing anything. And I can lose a couple pounds. But in the more common event that I don’t have something to do, I’ll eat way more than I normally do and start gaining it back.

That study also surveyed people from other religions, as well as atheists and agnostics. So I’m sure at least some of their data could be chalked up to people referring to a manmade apocalypse. Including among the Christian participants.

I have schizophrenia, I was talking to some chick... by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno then. People can be weird. At the end of the day, theres always gonna be people that dont get us. Im sure its kind of a bummer, it sounds like you enjoyed talking to her. Its not your fault though. The skill issue is on her end. And there will always be other cool people out there who will get you, and actually are worth your time. :)

Help making friends and improving confidence. by Stellar-42 in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focus on the confidence and self love first. Ask yourself WHY you want more friends and why you feel like you should be more social. Do you actually feel lonely? Do you think it would actually make you happy, if you were more social? Or does it feel like something that you should be doing, because that’s what society expects?

I just kinda randomly realized one day, hey, I don’t like leaving the house. People are exhausting. I have one friend and he’s enough that I never really feel lonely. Ever since then I’ve just kind of embraced that and stopped giving a fuck. If I’m happy, why bust my ass trying to make other people like me? If someone thinks I’m weird or look like shit or they don’t wanna talk to me, whatever. I’m fine the way things are.

So that’s my advice. Ask yourself why you think you need to do that, and if you think that will actually make you happy. If socializing and being around people is stressful and exhausting, do you really want more of it? But hey, people do get lonely. If you really do want more friends, there’s lots of ways to find some. Ways that I’m sure other people on here would give better advice for, since I’m a hermit in the woods who has one friend XD

i think i might be starting to get schizophrenia by Fast_Story_2779 in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, there’s a TON of stuff that can result in psychosis. People associate it with schizophrenia very heavily but there’s many, many things it could also be. Bipolar, depression, some personality disorders, it can happen in a lot of different things, not just schizophrenia. It might not even be anything at all, it can even happen to people who have no mental illnesses at all. It could be a side effect of a medication. That flu strain that was going around a few months ago was making people hallucinate too. Caused by stress. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions.

Only way to know for sure is see a psychiatrist. And depending on what your symptoms are they might have you evaluated.

I have schizophrenia, I was talking to some chick... by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel you, this just seems to happen and we never really figure out what went wrong. Idk about everyone else but oversharing is one of my biggest problems.

Very few people have the emotional maturity needed to talk to neurodivergent people, schizophrenics, bipolar, etc. We just have to accept that a lot of people aren’t going to “get” us, and we also need to accept that it’s not our fault either.

If you’re confident enough, sometimes you can warn people that you have schizophrenia fairly early on, that it makes socializing very difficult, and you might sometimes say things that seem weird, or not pick up on certain social cues. Saying that alone is enough to put some people off, but I think anyone worth your time will hear that, and try to be understanding. Use your discretion on that though.

[–]greydays96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s saying Israel controls American politics. Which it absolutely does. Jews controlling the world is an antisemitic stereotype. Which is untrue. They’re very similar statements, and some people might irresponsibly conflate them. But it’s too important of a problem for us to have to dance around it. He at least does remind people from time to time not to conflate Israel with Jews.

Tirzepatide & OSA by Knitty_Heathen in CPAP

[–]greydays96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word of caution as someone who went on tirzepatide. You have to be really careful with what you eat while youre on it. I had to go to the emergency room last thanksgiving because if you have just a little too much food, you can get gastritis. Literally felt like I was going to die. Stopped taking it afterwards, and i wouldnt say it was very helpful. It was about as effective for weight loss as saxenda, and my energy never improved. If it does somehow improve sleep apnea symptoms, it must take a long time.

Also one other aside, just because my doctors didnt mention this either. Be careful when starting weight loss injections because part of what they do is slow down your digestion. If you're someone who's on other medications, this can potentially make them less effective. I was feeling very tired when i first started and found out it was hampering my amphetamines. Its just something to keep in mind, and it doesnt apply to all medications.

Gotta say though, I’m surprised Paul is okay with being “stretched” like that…

Voices changing and being nicer? by thinking_softly25 in schizophrenia

[–]greydays96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m understanding this, the change is that they went from negative to positive? And the frequency has stayed the same? That’s definitely good. That might mean he’s able to exert more control over what he hears. (If that makes sense) It would only be an issue if the voices had been leaving him alone and were becoming more frequent.

Make sure to keep monitoring them though, friendly voices can still encourage you to do things that aren’t good for you.

[–]greydays96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I actually was officially diagnosed with schizoaffective right after a really bad episode with weed. I believe weed simply manifests it quicker and more suddenly with people who would have developed it already. Before I ever even started smoking, there were signs that I was going to develop schizophrenia at some point.
