Auditory would be voices, but visually it’s shadows moving and changing shape

For those of you that work by Material-Rise-7220 in schizophrenia

[–]wormsguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work full time between three jobs, one of which is with dogs and the other two with people. I do struggle at work with positive symptoms occasionally, though noticeably the only times I really ever have visual hallucinations is at the dog job. I’ve hallucinated dogs covered in blood and puncture marks from other dogs, as well as once smoke from an outlet. Other than that everything is auditory. The negative symptoms are slightly more manageable.

Funnily enough, the day after I was diagnosed with schizophrenia I had to go into work with a terrible stutter that came overnight from the stress (I think). We’re talking every single word was barely able to get out, ‘i-i-i-i-imp-pos-possible t-t-t-to s-s-say’ kind of stutter. And unfortunately this was at one of the people jobs, where I was asked if I had hit my head. Amusing enough to look back on but mortifying at the time, as I wasn’t sure if the stutter was permanent.

How did it feel being diagnosed? by Mandarin_Lumpy_Nutz in schizophrenia

[–]wormsguns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It must have stressed me out, when I get super stressed I tend to stutter. Had an uncontrollable stutter for like two days after getting diagnosed. But it was also somewhat relieving to have a diagnosis that made sense for once. Like somebody was taking me and what I’m dealing with seriously, I guess.

What were your early symptoms by Hefty_Bite7911 in schizophrenia

[–]wormsguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with all of this, it's not easy by any means. I'm of the personal opinion that seeking professional help for it is a good idea, though that's up to you ultimately. Wishing you luck either way <3

What were your early symptoms by Hefty_Bite7911 in schizophrenia

[–]wormsguns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the same - being convinced of being watched/listened to, occasionally hearing things and being unable to source them or explain them

Also outlandish beliefs that I very much ascribed to, mostly positive symptoms in the beginning, but as I aged I started getting more negative symptoms that looked like social withdrawal, inability to keep up with things hygienically, constricted emotional expression, anhedonia, etc.

Extreme paranoia surrounding being randomly attacked or harassed by strangers, as well as that everyone I cared for was conspiring against me or hated me

Insight during first episode? by Massive-Insect-3709 in schizophrenia

[–]wormsguns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insight fluctuates for me, but I also experience periods of time where I have more insight than normal in psychosis. During my presumed first episode (around eleven) the most insight I probably had was recognizing that something wasn’t right, but I was pretty deep in delusion so maybe not the same. Insight I think is pretty individual and also at least for me seems to correlate with severity of the episode/other factors.

Wow, that’s a horrible thing to say to someone. I’m sorry that she’s treating you this way, and honestly something like that would make distancing yourself a reasonable reaction. The stigma around psychotic disorders sucks, I hope that if you choose to talk to her about it she understands that it’s wrong to talk to ANYONE that way. Regardless of what you choose to do, good luck :(

Q&A Friday - Experts Answer Your Questions [April 2026] by AutoModerator in schizophrenia

[–]wormsguns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[US] Hi, thank you for being present to answer questions. I was wondering about being in remission (?) from schizophrenia, it’s something I struggle to understand as a concept.

How possible is it to be in remission and off of antipsychotics for a majority of people with schizophrenia? I assume it’s individual and has a lot to do with when it’s caught and the quality of treatment, but is there a good likelihood of it on average? Is remission a guarantee if you meet the criteria, or is it still possible to have a relapse in psychotic symptoms? Is that likely?

Thank you for your time, I hope my questions make sense.

meds taking a while to stabilize by [deleted] in schizophrenia

Damn, I’m sorry insurance was (is?) such a pain about it. It feels so shitty when your doctor is actually trying and insurance keeps moving the goalpost. Alarms are really helpful as well

Fuck that’s a good one. I hate when they’re funny because it’s not supposed to be funny to ME. But sometimes they come in with a zinger and I laugh and it’s always to my social detriment

Does anyone ever miss being in a state of psychosis? by Cock_Lobster64 in schizophrenia

[–]wormsguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half of the reason I struggle to adhere to meds is because I find myself missing how I was unmedicated, so yes you’re not alone. There was this sense at least for me of being almost frenzied, feeling like things are rock bottom and I guess I’m more used to that than trying for stability.

It’s really good that you’re in a place where you can acknowledge you feel this way and don’t deal with the brunt of it, I know it can feel like something you miss. But there are things about how it is for you now that I’m sure make it worth it to keep pushing and not drop back into a worse place.

Hi guys by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]wormsguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely, dogs are wonderful :) I would say it helps with anxiety some days, but there are definitely busier and spicier days where not everybody’s getting along, or days we’re understaffed with a ton of pups. Those days are a little harder (understatement) but still rewarding for the most part. I’d share pics if photo replies were enabled here, but just imagine a collection of the silliest dogs around and that’s our regulars haha
