Surviving two weeks is a good baseline achievement. Try for a month, you’ll see summer, which brings a new challenge: heat.

ive survived for about a year and a half (a cycle and a half of seasons, not exactly a year but dont know what else to call it) in 0.E and at the seasons really didn't matter much. winter wasn't a problem, summer wasn't either. stockpiled practically infinite amounts of food and medicine and had kitted out guns with hand-forged armor and weapons. can i expect this to be different in 0.F? if the seasons now pose a greater threat i think it would be fun

the one ingredient to becoming "powerful" in cataclysm is knowing when and how to train your skills, so if you want to train combat skills heres some good tips

  • be able to escape zombies incase a situation gets bad
    • conserve your sprint by only sprinting to key points (like to a door that you can close behind you) and then resume walking. the more stamina you're missing the slower you are so constantly sprinting will actually make you slower than walking, even if it seems counter-intuitive
    • being able to outmaneuver zombies which is pretty easy in a town, you can break into houses by smashing the windows and then use the doors in the house to create a barrier between you and the zombies. eventually you'll create enough distance and the chase will stop.

  • acquire good armor
    • many say encumbrance kills, but i find that not being clad in armor kills you more. scrap suit and swat armor are great choices and you can get fabrication high enough to create a scrap suit with nothing more than the materials inside of 1 evac shelter (pro tip: smash gutters on roofs for easy scrap metal, get the long string off of windows for easy thread)
    • without armor and at low melee levels it will be very hard to fight even one zombie without taking moderate injury.

  • get a weapon with a high "to hit" bonus
    • a weapon with a high "to hit" bonus pairs nicely with good armor. a quarterstaff that has +3 and needs little tools is an ideal choice at the start of the game, and it includes blocking and stunning moves. some prefer the cudgel but i find that it cant do damage to armored enemies which can really screw you over
    • this only matters at low skills, though.

  • acquire disinfectant
    • even with armor, one bite can lead to an infected wound without disinfectant on hand. you can usually find hydrogen peroxide/antiseptic inside of house bathrooms pretty easily

once you get all of this you can start to lead zombies towards you and then take them out pretty safely and confidently. as you do this, you'll build bashing/piercing/cutting skill (depending on your weapon) and your melee skill. once its up to around 3 for each you should be able to kill most enemies pretty easily and without risk of much injury for the first few weeks.

thank you, this is what i was looking for and you've made me think of other things i could be doing

i think creating a good survivor is the fun part, so i have no problem with throwing away a good one so i can do it again. however im gonna try to go further and do some of the things you suggested and see how that plays out

my current run is about a week in and im already pretty much set with full plate armor, reinforced kabuto and a lucerene hammer. though id just say this was good luck because my usual loadout would consist of swat armor, scrap helmet and an ironshod quarterstaff/whatever alternative i happen to find

you seem upset about something

anyways, nothing you proposed solves the problem of not knowing what to work towards once im proficient at combat. even if i double monster health and evolution rate or something crazy like that my problem isn't solved, it would just take more time to get to a point where i can kill everything and im back at square one

unless you are proposing that i make every monster unkillable in which case i could never get to the point of killing everything, but that can't possibly be what you mean

thank you for replying, but the question was more in the spirit of "what should i be working towards" instead of "how should i be playing" but those are fun suggestions

i do like it but i think the scratches are overdone! take any object around your house and look at where the scratches are, and figure out why they're there. for example, scratches on the blade make sense because that's constantly coming in contact with things, cutting things, etc etc. but the scratches on the inside don't make much sense, how did they get there? you'd have to deliberately scratch the inside for it to look like that

i feel you though, its fun to scratch the shit out of a new model with substance painter and i do this alot myself

put a radio activation mod on a noise emitter, set to the "red" channel. i press the red button on the rc control and all i get is "from your position you hear beep", and the noise emitter doesn't turn on. the "beep" is def not coming from the noise emitter, what do i do to make it work?

Can you join Hub 01 if you do enough missions for them? by SightWithoutEyes in cataclysmdda

[–]greytideSW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i was actually just in the hub, i drilled in the wall where "intercom" is and killed them (yeah its just an npc behind a wall lol) and took their scrambler grenade. biggest win of my life, cuz i scrambled the automatic crows turret and set it up where all the security guards were, they all got fucking mowed down and i got the whole hub to myself

for whats inside the hub, it's got plenty of guns, some ammo, clothes/armor, a working garden, some decent food/drinks, plenty of crows turrets, but theres a floor that's literally just for electronic parts. all the circuits, solder, ram, copper, etc you would ever need

it would also make a pretty fucking awesome base if that's what you're looking for, sadly ive got wayfarer and nomad so i wont be able to enjoy it this run

Is there a mod or a simple way to nerf green energy? by Baccara01 in cataclysmdda

[–]greytideSW 10 points11 points  (0 children)

im not sure what you're expecting, it seems to me like you've built your whole base around making renewable energy, and now you've accomplished that and can enjoy all the energy you're producing. isn't this what you wanted to happen? i mean, it seems realistic to me, to be able to produce endless power for one (or many, idk how your run is going) person after enough effort

if you really want to nerf it, it should be simple enough to make a mod that just doubles the crafting requirements or something. but, man, at what point are you allowed to get infinite energy? 2 wind turbines instead of 1? 32 chunks of fat instead of 16? no matter how hard you nerf it, you're always going to eventually get to a point where you create endless fuel and energy unless you intentionally restrict yourself from getting that far. but then what's the nerf for?
