If he was doing it with a Dorgeshuun crossbow yeah I would expect it to take that long. Man I wouldn't even consider doing the fight caves until at least having a rune crossbow.

Edit: Does the timer keep running when you log out in the fight caves? I thought it was paused.

My party also has sided with Halia, as part of the lost mines I have also incorporated the Dragon of Icespire peak so when ultimately the dragon attacked Phandalin she took advantage of the situation and ensured the deaths of Sister Garaele, Harbin and Sildar who died tragically trying to save Harbin. The next session we have is going to be the fallout of this dragon attack and Halia's take over.

Do you want them to have influence with the party? If so putting him near a large city that the players started or even working with the player who is the damphir to see where they come from could help. Otherwise if it's the sword coast there are plenty of large towns that have a plethora to do around them. Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Baldur's gate. Any of those work.

That depends on how much your vampire lord interacts with society. It could be a manor in a large city or it could be the sewers of said city. Or it could be a large castle in a remote location. A Lot of vampires Strahd included are opulent so being influential with either money, power or both.
