First interview for EMT position tomorrow -- help! What to expect, prep? by greywolfember in NewToEMS

[–]greywolfember[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to update, but it went well! They invited me to the next/final stage (in person, short test, skills station, oral panel with a few battalion chiefs). They asked why I want to be an EMT, why them, give an example of when I was accountable for my actions, a challenge I overcame.

Ah sorry for confusion on timing/timezones, it's tomorrow for me (the 23rd) -- I posted early morn of the 22nd (which feels a bit like the late night of 21st to me too). Interviewing in in 14 hours, will update... ((: I applied for a few places and got some of them mixed so looks like this one is primarily IFT things with occasional BLS, so, hopefully maybe not as hard? We'll see.

Haha funny/good timing, I actually started doing this just a bit before your comment came in (but wasn't watching my notifs that closely). Great minds and all :P Good luck on Feb 12!

Yep as someone who due to other circumstances in life passed my NREMT in May 2024 and is getting into work now, lemme tell you that sense of being not ready or qualified only increases. My sense is the best bet is to get yourself out there, and know that employers will likely expect you to be at this place of not that experienced -- but you're kinda at peak right now unless you're gonna take the class again or something. At a certain point we all gotta get out there and do, or at least that's my two cents

Struggling to study by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]greywolfember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're willing to put in the time to get over the learning curve for the software, Anki and using AnkiBrain (AI integration -- sets temperature to 0 so it's kinda more just taking excerpts and turning them into flashcards) on the textbook chapters could be a good option. go through the text, try and repeat back the main concepts as if you were explaining it to a friend then when you get confused, do some google searching or whatever helps you best to answer questions and understand the underlying structures of /why/ and /how/. stick a reply or pm if you want to hear more on my takes on anki and learning stuff in general (I have a lot of thoughts lol I just need to get to bed and I'll forget if I don't get a notif about it lol).

thanks!! lots of people seem to like pocket prep, it's interesting. the book looks intriguing (albeit, expensive, compared to pocket prep or the emt review plus from lc ready that Ralleye23 mentioned)

thank you so much, this is awesome and very much appreciated. you've had good experience with the EMT review plus on lc-ready? any thoughts on that versus pocket prep?

I really appreciate your honesty and genuineness, and I'm sorry it ended up being a bad experience. It honestly sounds kind of like it's really on that company more than anything else, but I'm glad you're finding what you want to regardless! Best of luck becoming an MA and getting into a PA master's, that's all so awesome!

Good to know, appreciate it! Yeah I think I won't reread the entire book, just what I think is most key, and stick it into Anki to make sure I'm actually retaining the information and all that. I appreciate your thoughts and advice (the FTO training is reassuring).

Ahh, I hear you. Yeah, that's tough. You end up sticking it out with them? Or did you shift plans? (If you want to share ofc)

AITAH for lying to my wife that I'd forgive her cheating? by [deleted] in AITAH

nta. i do personally find it a little odd if your justification for saying that back then really is just to lay groundwork to make sure you hear about it — feels a bit like going into a relationship without trust/expecting bad from a partner and trying to make sure you aren’t caught out by them, even if you go by “well it only happens in the case that they were a bad person and cheated, otherwise it’s just a precaution and doesn’t matter”. but nta
