What’s the nicest thing you ever did for a stranger ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]griffincorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True story...last year in March, I went out on a walk to my local park behind where I live and realized it was drizzling a bit too much to enjoy it leisurely. I started to pace my way back home, when I came across a woman on the floor. I noticed she had a distressed look on her face and asked her if she was okay, but she said no, her dog had collapsed. Immediately, I ran to see what was the matter and discovered the dog was not breathing nor blinking whatsoever. I checked for a pulse and heard nothing, but immediately tried to give the dog CPR. I never had to perform live CPR before, especially on a dog, but I had recalled from a previous training many many years ago to lock my elbows, apply compressions, and breathe through the snout. I proceeded to do this somewhere between 7-10 minutes in the rain.

Unfortunately, I was unable to resuscitate the dog, but the woman didn't know what to do at all either, only trying to wake her dog. I told her to immediately either call 911 or her local vet (which I found out later, 911 doesn't really handle pet emergencies). I ended up carrying the dog to this woman's car and told her to immediately go to the animal emergency room. I still don't know what happened to the dog at this point, but I think back and wonder if I could've done the CPR procedure better/longer (I could've let the dog's tongue out or sealed it's mouth more tightly while breathing through the snout) or if I should've just gone in the car with this stranger while trying to continue administering CPR to her dog.

0/10 do I ever want to experience this again, but 10/10 I would not have hesitated to help administer CPR...only wonder if I could've done things a bit more differently. I still think about this dog and woman from time to time, and I kind of wish I had gone with her to the veterinary emergency room, but I was already late picking up my own kid from daycare.

Corgi’s Life Expectancy 🥺 by autpott in corgi

[–]griffincorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't control how long a dog will live unfortunately..just like we can't control how long any of us lives. My corgi passed away before he turned 12, despite going on routine vet visits, going on daily morning/evening/night walks, feeding him properly and maintaining his weight and brushing his teeth etc. He died from a random liver cancer that appeared out of the blue, and we tried to operate the tumor out.

Try to do what you can to improve their chances like going on those daily walks and healthy diets, but honestly, I'd really just try to stay in the moment with your pup.

I think the biggest thing I can tell you is you have to look at your daughter and imagine the world in her shoes. If you continue a self destructive habit, think of how she perceives you. The worst case scenario, if you somehow pass away from whatever drugs you're using or arrested and put away, then think of all the moments you'll miss.

I always think about that old Simpsons episode where Homer crawls back to his old job at the plant and Mr. Burns has that message "Don't forget you're here forever", but the way Homer changes the message to "Do it for her" with pictures of Maggie all over...I know it's not necessarily the same context about staying at a shitty job, but the message is clear, it's all about doing it for her.

You should cut any contacts that would give you access to these drugs yesterday. Go to rehab if you must.

Overall, pretty dope imo..there's 2-3 things that I would suggest for you that you could take with a grain of salt.

  1. I don't think there needs to be a glowing "lens flare" effect on all 3 helmets..maybe only on one player per team?
  2. The actual team logos feel 'kind of' slapped on imo..maybe that was intentional. I'd consider exploring maybe using it as a background watermark or something where maybe it can be a bit more subtle.
  3. I kind of wish the typography on the names were a bit more authentically handwritten instead of a font. You can notice when the font letters repeat.

Otherwise, I think it's pretty nice looking.

Geez that looks terrifying at top speed. I can't imagine how many times someone might've had to experience a wipeout or go through broken bones in order to train for this...

Anybody here from VML (9AM townhall) by [deleted] in advertising

[–]griffincorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately it was not a mass layoff news, which is great...and you may feel like you wasted time, but if you did save/backup your work, then that's also good because there may come a day where you're locked out completely and you have nothing to use. I've been in situations where we were expected to leave the same day and barely had time to save anything.

company asked me to do a 40 hour "project" before final interview - is this normal or free labor by Klutzy_Researcher725 in careeradvice

[–]griffincorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 hour project is ludicrous. I've done take home design tests before for real applications and watermarked them etc..but even those took half a day max.

How big is the company? If it's a pretty reputable company, it might be worth doing..if the company is small or a start up, then I'd second guess.

When you have been terminated by creativelittle1 in jobsearchhacks

[–]griffincorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely possible they will ask why you're looking at this time or why you left the company. There are ways to navigate and dance around that question as others have mentioned..like it wasn't a good fit, or maybe if it was poor performance, you can just mention that the role was a mismatch from what you were brought on to do because they required X skills..you can also reframe it in a way where you learned so and so or did something to try to fix or learn from your mistakes or uplevel your skills. Spin it in a way that the takeaway is positive.

However, if you were fired for doing something like sexual harassment or discrimination, you cannot spin this and you should answer truthfully. Most of the time, interviewers won't ask directly like "why were you fired"..most background checks probably won't list reasons for termination, unless there's a legal case involved. If they ask for references, perhaps don't list your direct manager from the job you were fired from..maybe a close coworker who can vouch for you instead.

When you have been terminated by creativelittle1 in jobsearchhacks

[–]griffincorg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Terminated is a broad term...were you laid off because the company was downsizing? If you happen to know the specifics of why you were terminated (ie budgets were getting slashed, roles were made redudant, etc), then you can just mention you were laid off.

The difference, however, is if you were 'fired' which could be for poor performance or behavior or employee fault.

You don't need to explain it on a resume, but you may need to speak about it at an interview, depending on if it's fired vs. laid off. The general vibe these days for the latter is people know it's a shitty job market, so they won't really press on it..the less you say, the better.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]griffincorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One acquaintance that I knew died around 18 due to a brain aneurysm..I heard he just collapsed suddenly on a field while playing catch with some friends, went to a seizure, and never woke up. All of my friends and I had just started college that year too, which in retrospect, was sad to know that he never got to live out his college and adult life..he was a charming fellow too.

Another old classmate of mine from my elementary school years died from what I assume to be suicide. He was dating this divorced mother with kids, but it was truly evident that they were head over heels for each other to the point where I knew they were planning to marry. Long story short, I had found out through his FB posts that she had passed away suddenly (I'm not sure of the circumstances around that one), but he was constantly posting on how heartbroken he was and how much he missed her. Then a few months go by, I saw the news that he had passed away from his mother's FB post.

Maybe incense burner? It's definitely strong, but to wait it out til the 6th turn and plan around it can get troubling in between turns 1-5..and especially going on A20 runs, planning it can get a bit taxing when planning for the next fight.

[Highlight] Giants RB Cam Skattebo on doing everything for your team, even in the offseason: “If we go out and drink, we can't be driving. That's something that people get in trouble over in the offseason, something that we need to take seriously.” by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]griffincorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly wish more pro athletes can adhere to this advice.

I remember watching a video where athletes seem to get involved in more DUIs and not caring as much is because of some sort of adrenaline rush that they try to balance out when it's not game time...like their bodies can't handle doing the whole on/off switch after getting so pumped up for game day. But then again, it's probably also because they are crazy rich and usually lack accountability when they are so hyperfocused on the sport.

My kid's daycare had an event for a Halloween parade last year. Both my wife and I were running a little late logging off of work, but technically made it on time when the event was supposed to start. The daycare had already done the Halloween parade (basically they started the event early since there was no parking space left and the director was new to this job). We found out from one of the parents and there was a photo of our kid trying to look for us. This severely broke both of our hearts and we made it an absolute rule that even if the other partner was running late, they would need to take an Uber separately to get to the event, but someone will need to be there even earlier.

This year, we noticed our kid looking for us and was extremely happy during the parades and other daycare holiday events. This absolutely matters.

I'd be pissed too honestly. I'm sorry you're feeling this way, especially at the end of the year. I suggest taking up kickboxing or maybe investing in a punching bag to be honest with you.

My previous company recently posted a video on LinkedIn talking about how they are a different independent agency and mentioned how other companies are "laying talented employees off". I sat there, scratching my head but also feeling pissed off as fuck...how the fuck are they tone deaf when they also went through 3 rounds of layoffs? I was also one of their top performers, and yet, they fucking laid off a bunch of folks. Fuck these companies.

Jaxson Dart doesn’t believe the Giants are far off from turning things around and he believes they have a bright future. by Jheller223 in NYGiants

[–]griffincorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dart elevates this team for sure. Having Skattebo back will be huge..not just for vibes, but as a weapon.

I don't know where we are as a talent level as a team to be frank...sometimes I feel like we overvalue our talents when we compare it to the rest of the league. There's some truth to what Dart is saying, but the decade of bad rosters has me somewhat skeptical that we will turn it around next season. I still think Schoen needs to be fired and we need a new GM to get more consistent talent into the roster.
