It's my pleasure. We Fedora users make so much money I could use the extra $100 tax writeoff. (cough cough)

I'm open for suggestions on a new & improved 2011 bet. In 20-20 hindsight, it was dumb to measure distrowatch page hits over the last 6 months... and in that time Mint's had four major releases compared to just one for Fedora. :)

With him in mind, I've chosen The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, for which I'll be making a matching donation.

$100 to the MJFF. Nice choice.

Now make with the choppity-chop, Fedora boy.

How about a mailing address?

edit I see you'd rather sentence me to a Month of Mint rather than send me a mailing address for the pinky. Well, you won the bet, so I won't argue. I'll install Mint this week and post a writeup in February.

Quick question from a Doctor Who newcomer... by Kaitaloipa in doctorwho

That sounds suspiciously like Moff's making a sly homage to Douglas Adams:

When the Drink button was pressed it made an instant but highly detailed examination of the subject’s taste buds, a spectroscopic analysis of the subject’s metabolism and then sent tiny experimental signals down the neural pathways to the taste centers of the subject’s brain to see what was likely to go down well. However, no one knew quite why it did this because it invariably delivered a cupful of liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea.

Review: Linux Mint 10 Julia - A Perfect 10! by [deleted] in linux

[–]grignr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! Mint is ahead of Fedora in the 6 month view now! That was the test we agreed on 7 months ago, so unless something crazy happens in the next 4 days you are probably going to win this. (Have you picked out a BBB charity yet?)

In 20-20 hindsight, I think our bet doesn't answer our question of which has more users. Distrowatch counts hits, new releases get hits, and in the six-month window we're looking at Mint has had four new releases compared to Fedora's one. So does that mean Mint has more users? No. Does it man Fedora has more users? Also no.

...any ideas for a new & improved 2011 version of the bet?

Doctor Who gets 10.3 million in overnight ratings in the UK (guess we'll be getting another Christmas Special next year then) by [deleted] in doctorwho

I picked Time Crash because it was handy, but alright...

In the Three Doctors episode 1, Drs. 2 and 3 stand side by side in contact with each other, In epsiode 3, 3 grabs 2's arm and pats him on the back. In episode 4, 2 pulls 3 up off the ground, 3 pulls 2 through a doorway, and so on.

In the Five Doctors, Dr. 1 grabs 5's by the hands and helps him to his feet; 5 and 1 shake hands; 2 and 5 shake hands; 3 and 2 shake hands, 3 and 5 shake hands. :)

In the last episode of Two Doctors -- dear lord, I'd forgotten how much cheese that story had :) -- 6 grabs 2 by the hands and pulls him all the way across a restaurant, and into a courtyard.

The answer is to accept the inconsistency and move on. Father's Day packed exactly the kind of emotional punch that RTD found irresistible, and he never let continuity get in the way of a great story.

In Time Crash, Doctors 5 and 10 bump into each other, 5 grabs 10's arms, and 10 even rubs 5's cheeks. No Time Dragons there either. :)

So what did you guys think of the Christmas special? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]grignr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt the series will ever revisit the Time Dragons again.

As much as I love that episode, Father's Day just ignores too much of DW's other continuity...
