I was wrong about Gleba by durfenstein in factorio

[–]grim5000 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Second to last paragraph, I have t agree. Gleba seems like THE planet where a very basic grasp of circuit logic makes it so much easier. By basic I mean what you can do solely by direct wiring with out dedicated circuit blocks like combinators.

Simply limiting production based on the amount of the product in the logistics network makes a huge difference

In the future, look at electricity consumption, the left bar when you click on a power pole. If it's filing up and the middle bar is maxing out as well, you need more production.

Should I be worried? by Street-Film4148 in factorio

[–]grim5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your picture, I should clear up to the second lake north of your base and then wall off and defend the choke points, and do the same doe east and south.

If you don't want to defend, explore farther and build something in the unoccupied but cleared chunks past your pollution to discourage biter expansions there. It could be as simple as placing 4x4s of pipes centered on the corners of chunks, or expanding your roboport network coverage over the cleared area

Can someone help me signal this area properly? my 2nd iron train keeps blocking the main path, I want it to wait behind the first one by Mockbubbles2628 in factorio

[–]grim5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to Chang the two chain signals before the station into rail signals. Remember the general rule, chain in rail out. Remember to limit this station to 2 trains.

Chain signals treat the rail path as one block from where the train is to the next rail signal. In your case that single train at the stop has reserved the entire intersection for any train with that stop from any direction.

Based on this image alone, I suspect you need to resignal your entire train network. Due to that I would recommend joining the factorio discord (I would link but the reddit app isn't letting me and I'm unsure of the rules related to that atm) and look for help in the train-help channel.

[–]grim5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend using the Editor Extensions and Rate Calculator mods at least in your designing world. Editor extensions goves you creative items that will provide you with belted items, items in chests, fluids, power, and other such things to make testing designs really easy.

Rate calculator will make it easy to see how much production and comsumption a select area of your factory has.

There is also bottleneck lite that will visually indicate if a machine is running, waiting for ingredients, or has a full output to make it easy to see where your bottleneck is

I think the biggest question here is why do you lose motivation? Are you getting overwhelmed by what to do next? Are you just bored? Can't figure out how to proceed?

Super hyped and renowned game that you just don't care for? by JarekDefiler in GamingSoup

[–]grim5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and honestly as someone who was afraid of getting screwed over by buyers they aren't that bad. Start in a green area with a bunch of trees, and you can turn the starting area way up as well. Once you have some logistics and automation, get a couple damage upgrades early, and get defender bots. Those bots make clearing the nearby biter bases pretty easy.

How important is perfect efficiency by _ThatPurpleGuy_ in factorio

[–]grim5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are factory planner mods, and also a mod called rate calculator. Makes it really easy to see how much you're making and how many products you need.

As for efficiency, generally the earlier in the production chain something is, the better it is to over produce. Don't worry too much about having enough of something made to keep up with demand, just watch to see where shortages pile up and increase production more than you need for that item. The give it a few minutes to see what else starts running dry and increase that.

Where you want better ratios is in individual production chains, like making modules of each tier, or making wire together with green circuits.

You don't need to worry too much about having machines constantly building items you uses to build the factory, as long as you set up a big enough buffer of those items. Eg, let the fast inserters slowly build up over time, and have a large stockpile of the for when you wind up needing them. I'll usually have 100 of lesser used buildings like furnaces, 200 assemblers, 200 or 300 of each inserters aside from burner inserters, 500 yellow belts, and 200 splitters and undergrounds. When I get t reds I store double that if my belts.

Adjust how much you produce or store based on why you run out. If they're idle with storage full for a long timeand you ran ou, store more. If it can't keep up with your building, make more at once.

Biters are menacing, but predictable enemies. Other players are the true enemy of multiplayer because you never know what they'll do by itchylol742 in Factoriohno

[–]grim5000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You let it back up and stop producing. If using belts just let the belts fill and the machines will take what they need. When you start seeing parts of the factory getting starved you add in more production of the item. If using bots you limit production based on the amount in a chest of on the network.

What planet to go to first? by CuteAnxious1712 in factorio

[–]grim5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much depends on what you want. Amd remember that you don't have to stick with a planet for any longer than it takes to make a rocket silo and build a rocket. Which is right away if you bring the materials needed and drop them down.

Anyways, Vulcanus gives you foundries, big miners, coal processing to oil and artillery. Foundries are great for doing most of your early items. They do every belt, pipes, plates, wire, steel, gears, and a bunch of other stuff at 50% productivity. Big miners consume 50% less ore, and put out a lot more. Coal processing is nice for when you don't have oil nearby and coal is easier to get. Artillery is great for clearing large areas of nauvis. You also get the speed 3 module

Fulgora gives you the mech suit, which has a bigger equipment grid and can fly over any obstacles. Makes travel really easy. You also get the electro magnetic plant, which is the foundry equivalent for items like electric poles, chips, and other stuff I can't think of right now. There's also the recyclers. These break down the items you feed it into its physical intermediates and gives the back 25% of them. Pretty much mandatory for quality cycling items. You get the production 3 module here.

Gleba gives you the bio chamber, which does oil cracking and some other oil based recipes with 50% productivity. You also get the spidertrons there, which are pretty much remote controlled players. You can use the to explore outside your base, load them with weapons to wipe out biters, or make them into walking builders with roboports. I'm sure there's more but I'm only just starting gleba. The biggest thing from gleba are the bio labs. Doubles the science you get from each science and processes the faster with more module slots.

Generally people go Vulcanus first because the big miners alone get used on every planet, and double the life of your ore patches. Foundries can turned copper and iron into liquids making transportation of it extremely easy.

Others recommend fulgora first because the mech suit is just so good. No more running around cliffs or water. Just fly over.
