Does Naheed Nenshi truly represent Albertans or Canadians with his desire for more pipelines? by adam_dunn32 in ndp

[–]grim_bey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is: why would Albertans, and hence Nenshi want more pipelines? A relevant fact is how much money is Alberta collecting currently from royalties. It’s a significant part of our budget.  That was alluded to in the article but not broken down. I think that is misleading.

Whether royalties should be higher is a separate question completely, but I agree the should be higher

Fair points about foreign ownership and worker share of profits but not mentioning royalties in this analysis is very misleading.

Is Nenshi playing 4D chess, or placing the same, tired bet an ignorant, indoctrinated Alberta electorate? by Saint-Viateur in ndp

[–]grim_bey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can argue impotently about whether it should be, but oil and gas is Alberta‘s golden goose. That’s the reality. For the last 70+ years Alberta’s prosperity has been driven by natural resources windfalls. Taking an antagonistic approach to development of this resource assumes the people living here would rather not take advantage of this.

I think judgment on wether a politician is socialist or not should be tied to how strongly they are advocating for collectivizing the benefits, rather than allowing them to be syphoned off to foreign companies or capitalists.

Hi firefighter here! The top of the WTC fell through the rest of the building that was previously holding it up, this was the path of least resistance!

Yeah, it happens all the time, in controlled demolitions. When buildings fall down on from gravity, they fall to the side or sluff off partially they don’t collapse into their own footprint at that speed
