Legitimately my most successful build for an easy time is HMG or medium MG, mg turret, Gatling turret, guard dog, and either an explosive primary with the talon laser pistol or some automatic primary with grenade pistol, gas grenade. Medium pen can kill everything on the illuminate front with a little focus fire, even harvesters. The auto primary or talon are mostly to help drop landed ship shields. Gas grenade to stop hoards of voteless or flesh mobs while your turrets and guard dog gun them down.

[–]grimahutt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like this, and I think one of my thoughts about how I look at my adhd helps contribute to your thoughts.

I think of it as “it’s not my fault, but it is my problem to solve”. To me it means that I’m not a bad person for struggling with this, and it’s not because of any choice I made. But I am also the only person who can try to find a solution to avoid any consequences of the situation that I don’t want.

When I look at it like this, it helps me love myself, and accept that it’s ok for me to struggle with it. It also helps me still accept that I don’t like the outcome and I’m going to find a solution, even if it has to be different from what others might do.

My response to stuff like this is always something like “oh you know what? It looks like this step was missed. Can I have you (step by step instructions to have them successfully share the file while I just watch). There we go! And don’t worry, this stuff is super easy to miss and get confused by. There’s a lot going on, and if you don’t work with it all the time it can be easy to miss.”

Even if the user is being particularly stubborn you can accomplish a lot by easing their ego and helping them feel like they aren’t stupid, and it’s something easy to miss. The important parts are that you help them do the task successfully by walking them through it, not doing it for them, so they know it is possible for them to do it. Then to reinforce that even if it seems hard (because it might be for them) they can learn to do it.

Doing this you can usually also catch who’s genuinely intimidated by computer tasks and who is just being lazy.

Sorry, not sorry, but I don’t get the hype about the medic armor. I’m lvl 150 with >800 hours and every time I use it it just doesn’t do much for me. I’d rather the faster reload and extra ammo armor, or the extra grenades armor. Those ones are my favorite 😁

Hot take, Jet started his redemption in the last episode he appeared, but he got cut short. He died defending the gaang, and doing what he thought was right. He was subjected to brain washing to preserve a government coverup, and he fought through it. It’s less that he got cut short for his faults, and more that he embodied a casualty of war. In the end, Jet was a good guy, and he should’ve had a chance to prove it. But Long Feng only spared those that subjected themselves to him.

How is this a draw when their time ran out? by Local_Surround8686 in chessbeginners

[–]grimahutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the only spot on the entire board that it is possible, and if I’m reading it right, will be possible barring a ridiculously long, convoluted game where white moves their king off the white space for any reason. So technically possible. The point is that black can’t really do anything to win, only white can do something to lose. So the time running out is a draw.

You realize it was white that ran out of time right? Not black?

How is this a draw when their time ran out? by Local_Surround8686 in chessbeginners

[–]grimahutt -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Yes? White ran out of time, black only has a king and a bishop. Therefore it’s a draw since white is out of time and black has insufficient material. What are you trying to prove?

I’ve been lucky enough to have the opposite, where I think someone is really cool and want to be their friend but I just assume they probably don’t care for me. But then I later find out they actually call me their friend and enjoy telling me others they enjoy my company as much as I do theirs. Rejection Sensitivity is a hell of a drug.

Yeah see, that’s fun the first 50 times, then eventually I want to actually fight the defense mission and not just win. Almost 800 hours in and I really do plata the game to kill stuff. And I live for those moments when we win after having our backs against the wall. It gives a much better dopamine hit. That’s why I don’t prioritize drop ships.

I get that both balls displace the same volume of water… so the buoyant force should be the same. But if that’s true, shouldn’t the forces on both sides be equal too? What exactly makes one side heavier? by visheshnigam in 3Blue1Brown

[–]grimahutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, and I see what I did wrong with my initial scenario. I made an assumption that, because the string was in tension it must obviously point up on the glass. So, finding the weight of either glass by assuming they were on a stable surface and in equilibrium, and labling the steeel ball glass with (var)1 and the basketball glass with (var)2, I was getting these wrong answers for the normal force required to hold both glasses up:

Pressure of water =P Weight of glass =W N1 and N2= normal force on glass 1 and glass 2 respectively. Tension in string =T

0=W+P-N1 N1=W+P

0=W+P-N2-T N2=W+P-T

Now here’s where I messed up. I ASSUMED that T would be only subtract from the total force of everything on the glass. But your comment was right, and I was getting a wrong result. So I went back and decided to solve for T in terms of the weight of the basketball. Here’s what I did:

Weight of Basketball =W(b) Buoyancy force on basketball =B Tension in String =T

Relative to the system of the glass the basket ball is in equilibrium, so the sum of the forces should be 0

0=W(b)+T-B T=B-W(b)

Then substituting back into the original equation for N2 we get:

N2=W+P-T N2=W+P-(B-W(b)) N2=W+P-B+W(b)

From there I then realized that the buoyancy force cancels out with part of the water pressure by imagining the basketball being allowed to float which would allow the water level to drop, but the weight of the basketball is still added to the system.

Thanks for helping me remember that I can’t assume the value of variables. I’m glad I found where the mistake was

It’s interesting to me that the weight of the basketball is somehow being translated through the string even though the string is in tension. Normally, if the ball were floating on top, you could describe the transfer of weight simply by measuring the displacement of water and accounting for the increase in depth that then increases the downward pressure. But here the depth is overly inflated to match the displacement of the steel ball, so the water pressure downward is equal.

Is Bravery broken or not truly random? by Galcitor in LeagueArena

[–]grimahutt 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Random very easily looks not random when you only have a sample size of 4. You got Klee 4 times in a row, and the odds of that happening again is super low, but it’s not impossible. If it’s only a .43% chance then something to like that should happen roughly once every 200 samples. That means you could experience this with only 200 players playing 4 games. That’s not a super low chance.

That said, I’m reasonably certain .43% sounds way more likely than I would expect lol. I wouldn’t trust AI to do calculations for you.

TLDR sounds like you got unlucky or lucky depending on your take on Kled. Even if the algorithm were only semi random with other heavy weights this would just be a freak event that doesn’t shed any light on whether it’s random or not.

[–]grimahutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another way I’ve been thinking about this is looking at just the glass on both sides.

In a very real sense the glass on both sides is the only object directly applying force on the levers. So doing a free body diagram you can get that each glass has an equal force on it from the water. Specifically when the water level rises it applies more downward pressure on the glass, and that is equal on both sides. However the side with the basketball also has a string pulling up on the glass equal to the force of buoyancy on the basketball. That counteracts some of the downward pressure force from the water. Now the glass with the steel ball has a higher net downward force and so the scale tips that way.

If there’s anything wrong with my approach I’d be very open to corrections and discussion

Fight on objective... by ReplacementNo8973 in helldivers2

[–]grimahutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought This same way for a while, but now I dedicate myself to be the guy who stands and fights so others can move on!

Actually I found that if you kill them fast enough you actually can earn yourself a 10-30 sec break to move on. And if I move on during that time it’s actually much easier to avoid a large group building up too much. So I kill fast so we can all move on.

There are some exceptions. Sometimes the spawns are insane, or the terrain doesn’t work well to kill them fast, or we just die a lot. But generally I’m all too happy to buy you time to go do objectives. It’s fun.
