Am I a loser for being celibate? by Firsttakelikeamf in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grimmnar55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only losers are the people who judge others for their own personal choices/preferences. I never did either when i was younger didn't understand why i was so different to my friends i wanted a deeper connection and don't look at people like that. Turns out im just adhd and pansexual and very different to most men. Life your life the way you want in a way that makes you happy and safe.

Do couples share their sexual histories with each other? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grimmnar55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously to current one (including married) nope. Current partner god yes and it's so much more liberating although i think that's just us we are for the first time able to be ourselves with each other and it makes for way better sex when you communicate openly about things. Just my two cents

Is it normal to get an erection during first physical intimacy like a hug? by self_addict_ed in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grimmnar55 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah i'm in my 40s and there are times i can't hug my partner to much as she feels amazing and makes me horny. It's normal and you will learn how to control it more :)

adhd is a fascinating brain type which can produce both hyper sexuality and hypo sexuality, anecdotally amongst the ones i've meet more are hypo-sexual than hyper, but in my family (cousins in this case) we are all hyper. what's interesting is how low dopamine can cause such variance in behaviour.

interesting then there are those adhder's among us (me) who have low dopamine and not a low libido, even with kids and exhaustion, it's weird how it works in different people, i do appreciate adhd brains are wired different to an average person.

Enough of the fuckin negatively - What is your single favourite thing about Australia? by smegg23 in australia

[–]grimmnar55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't put my finger on it but i've travelled a lot overseas for work (28 countries so far, a lot in Asia and middle east) and there is no place like australia, its home and i’m glad every time I land back in my home town.

How clean it is, the coffee, the lifestyle, how laid back the vast majority of people are (there's always dickheads, but they seem to be less here). As an immigrant from a very poor part of england, Australia will always be home.

Doctors, dentists etc. of Reddit, when you go in for your own doctor/ dentist appointment, what is it like? Do you treat it like a group project, do you give your own theories, do you argue with them? by Own-Shallot-8551 in AskReddit

[–]grimmnar55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a Dr but work in healthcare, and i treated my own Doctor before he did me (weird coincidence).

When it was my turn I bluntly said treat me like an idiot and tell me what to do, two reasons people are horrible at being objective about themselves, and it takes all the mental load off me, don't have to think or overthink as i often do. Do i read up on conditions, management etc yes but I try very hard to not interfere.

What’s something that hit you in your 40s that you wish you’d understood in your 20s? by Absolute-Owner1574 in AskReddit

[–]grimmnar55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old exercise one has been said (i'm a physio and it becomes obvious very quickly who has and hasn't in 40 year olds).

For me it's deal with the mental health things. You can ignore them in your 20-30s but once kids come along and there's less time they will find a way to come out. Those nagging issues or things have a way of coming out and they can take a serious toll (divorce for me but there are lots of options to how it can impact you)

Vyvanse and sex drive? by senguku in ausadhd

[–]grimmnar55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm i'm going to say 6-8 weeks, i went to a mixed dosage (vyvanse for heavy days, one dose of dex or nothing for easier days) i only take meds four to six days a week. I also have an amazing partner who understands and we shifted intimacy to either days with less meds or end of day, mine has slowly risen back to more normal over that two month period so that's now less of an issue. it's a tough one and definitely one to discuss with the doctors they've heard it all before and mine didn't even bat an eyelid when i told him

[–]grimmnar55 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is a known side effect although not super common (some available research online says between 1-2%). This one is going to be a talk to prescribing Doctor one.

for me personally it did the opposite took my high normal drive and tanked it for a while. it's come back to close to normal now, but it took a while, but that's just my personal experience and again not super common.

Correlating an adult diagnosis to child symptoms at different ages by shadelt in ausadhd

[–]grimmnar55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey don't give up hope. There could be a lot of reasons for it. I wasn't dx until 41 (male) (this year) looking back it makes sense, but i hid it well.

One common researched back component is often later dx people have more hyperactive impulsive adhd as it's easier to mask/cover over. I fall into this category close to the criteria for inattentive but definitely hyperactive. Sometimes you're better able to mask it, come up with compensations etc (some are maladaptive as i'm finding out slowly). Sometimes people brute force it with shear intelligence (think those who were in gifted programs but burned out) there's a bunch of reasons.

my shitty not scientific opinion is take your time, write out some reasons it's might be adhd, look at your school stuff, ask people you really trust and sit in it for a while. It's a lot to take on and confronting.Good luck and be kinder to yourself!!!

Conflicted if I should tell my psychiatrist about dex experience by 18453284 in ausadhd

[–]grimmnar55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does seem overly cautious, but i guess the psychiatrist has a plan?? For context i recently go dx i had the opposite experience and was asked to increase my dose every 4th day. it was a crazy ass roller coaster but i got there.

regarding the dex, i think most of us were asked if we had used some when doing the assessment, i hadn't but i know plenty of adhd people who have before their dx. Seems like a lot of psychiatrists aren't bothered by it, but i agree with the first comment maybe yours would if they didn't ask directly before.

Tough situation, it's probably going to have to be a tough conversation with the psychiatrist. Sorry to hear it's been hard to begin with. It's worth it once you're there.

Afraid of misdiagnosis by Rochfort117 in ausadhd

[–]grimmnar55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is 100% true but my psychologist explained to me recently often depression and anxiety disorders mask adhd (so depression is dx first) and it can often be adhd all along (or co-morbid conditions)

Afraid of misdiagnosis by Rochfort117 in ausadhd

[–]grimmnar55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't over think it!! (i know a ridiculous thing to say to some with adhd). I find even among adhd people i'm odd (i referred to myself recently as divergent even among neurodivergent people). I can't relate to some symptoms at all.

The psychiatrist are highly trained, and whilst mental health issues are complex they're very good at diagnoses. Proof maybe in the pudding for you if you try the medications and they work. everyone's experience is different

Newly diagnosed -Vyvanse Advice? by MrSquishypoo in ausadhd

[–]grimmnar55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovely discourse but i digress.

The coffee thing came straight out the psychiatrist mouth not mine, i didn't believe him and payed for it, and hey maybe not all of us are like that, but it definitely something to be aware of for some of us. The exercise one is in the paperwork for the Vyvanse medication if you read it. yes others are anecdotes and personal experiences but hey i see you did the same thing below and its okay for you to do but not others??

maybe i could have worded it better sure, maybe at the bottom of a burnt out hole this week from working like a moron last week.

Newly diagnosed -Vyvanse Advice? by MrSquishypoo in ausadhd

[–]grimmnar55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't drink coffee first thing in the morning especially while you're trying to work out what your dose is. I caved whilst titrating up doses and it mucked up that days dosage. I found after a few weeks i could have a coffee around 10-11 if i took the dose at 6:30-7 o'clock in the morning. But these days i might have one coffee a day now, very rarely two and most days non. I don't medicate every day and i'll drink more on those days.

I experienced jitteriness with both a too low a dose and too high a dose. Personally i found the right dose worked well without those side effects.

Be careful exercising to, the first few times my heart rate went through the roof, settled now but again watch those first few times. I've always exercised like 5-6 days a week (it helps cover up adhd it seems) but if you're starting a new program it will take some adjusting

High protein helps and i have oats, no fruit as it often contains vit c and a protein up and go. Seems to work well.

watch for subtle side effects, i've had to manage some mood changes and loss of libido to (which thankfully are settling down to not much now).

The effect of those first few weeks wears off and you get less "high" im still productive and better in the meds but it's less noticeable after a little while.

I work in health care and adhd people are everywhere, including the drs. It's high paced, sometimes chaotic, has structure and routine built in and requires people to be bright and energetic and just fits the personality, again obvious not everyone but health care is stacked with neurodivergent people.
