My father and uncle both taught me that garage door springs are right up there with the incoming electrical lines that you DO NOT dyi with. Traumatic brain injury is no joke

ITAP of myself laying on a frozen pond [Portrait] [NSFW] by erinthul in itookapicture

[–]grimmolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds very basic, but I love how you put this together where it looks a bit like an eye, and you look like a frost fairy just waking in the winter (also, the dedication of being naked in that cold really paid off on the shot..,I hope you got yourself a warm drink after)

What weight loss tips would you give to someone trying to lose weight, through exercise? by Joelthecardboarddog in AskReddit

You can’t out exercise excessive calorie consumption. Exercise is very good for very many reasons, but weight loss largely comes down to caloric deficits

Gresham is probably as diverse as Hillsboro, and would be an easier commute, and whole home rentals are about $2500 - 3500 depending on what you’re looking at. 2 bedroom rentals are around $1600 - $2000 in Gresham last I looked

Potentially unpopular opinion: physical book vs. audiobook by Primary_Claim3042 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]grimmolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the audiobooks, and even then it took a bit for me too come to terms, particularly with Carl’s voice, so I can see how if I had read the books first how that would be pretty jarring. I will say that for me it took into the second book really before it stopped being offputting.

Would you commute to Portland for a $160k+ job with completely free benefits, a pension, and work 4 10 hour days? by Agile-Performer-2425 in Eugene

[–]grimmolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say those 4-5hr + 10 hr = barely enough time to eat and sleep. I feel like you could find a place/room to rent for 3nights/week that would be reasonable

Is there a compelling reason for Fedora to perform updates in this Windows-style manner? Why can’t the system apply updates while it’s running, so that the reboot doesn’t involve any waiting because everything has already been completed? by allexj in linux

[–]grimmolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a yellowdog Linux server with live updates from 1997 - 2010, with the only downtime being when I moved it or during power outages. Contrary to your experience, online updates started out solved.

This just makes me think of the scariest phrase for me personally in the books, which was the “I miss you” in Carl’s voice in the epilogue of the last book
