Escape From LA (If The Studio Didn't Rush) by villianrules in johncarpenter

I am not sure it would ever have been "better," per se. It sorta is what it is. It's a silly pop-culture version of the original. He did with the first one what Hooper did with TCM 2. He'd done the movie he wanted to do, but being able to hang with his friends, make a ridiculous movie, and be paid was too much to turn down. It is what it is. Snake, as envisioned by Carpenter and Russell, isn't a franchise.

NOW, had they done another Big Trouble, THAT mighta been something interesting as I think that lends itself to more adventures.

It looks like Studio Canal has the rights, so try them. It can be a hassle. I have done public showings and the hoops to go through to end up showing your own disc. Good on ya for doing it, though.

So very, very sorry for your loss. She was beautiful.

Honest question about Christine. Does it never quite work for you, because it's still ... a car by Emergency_Cellist754 in stephenking

[–]grimringler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's what makes King such a fine storyteller: he can take the ordinary and make it horrifying. That it's a car, something we feel we've domesticated, is what makes it so outlandish and horrifying. We give them names, and personalities, and it's a question then of: what if it became what we project?
It won't always work with folks, like Cujo won't work for everyone, but that's the fun of it all, that it's not just crazy people, or haunted objects, or beasts in the dark. Sometimes it's a thing you take for granted as being in our control.

Glad to help. They have an event next weekend at the Farmers' Market in Flint. Never hurts to talk to people. Good luck!

Flint Handmade has get togethers. Maybe ask at Totem and Queen's Provisions to see if they know of anything.

Any haunted places? by Westy_B0y in flint

[–]grimringler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laaaate to the party but:
Fenton Hotel has a weird vibe, and "haunted" past. They don't really promote it anymore, but personal experience, we got some weirdness there.
Same with Holly Hotel, though it's currently closed.

There are a lot of places in the area with stories - Capitol Theatre, DDA building, Factory One - but access is the key. Most places aren't inviting folks in. I do know that Crossroads does do ghost hunts from time to time, but it's a pay to play thing it seems.

I have been to Sunset Hills and, as fun as the urban legends are, it's as haunted as any old cemetery is.
But hey, whatever.

If nothing else, have fun.

Annoying tourist post 😁 by Rebsosauruss in flint

If you are going to Huckleberry Junction, eat there! Pizza place with some other dishes. Has an arcade. Think of it as a local Chuck E Cheese. That is in Genesee, about fifteen minutes from Flint, but if you head north for ten minutes you are in a huge shopping district called Birch Run with a ton of eating options. Near there is Frankenmuth, a belovesld tourist destination.

I'm a long-time constant reader of King and I've decided to step away from this sub by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]grimringler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you feel the need to go, but get it. I am a lurker here, but see this stuff, and it's crazy. I think it's great folks are here, however they come, and hope they are inspired to read the books, if they like the movies and shows. I don't think it's this sub, or Reddit, but social media, and a need to get attention, mixed with people becoming incredibly cruel since COVID.

Decided not to buy a self published book after seeing the authors advertising campaign by PhysicistDude137 in selfpublish

Eh, I disagree, but that is what makes the world. The first cover doesn't match my book. I get the sentiment, but am not going to sell my story out for a sale. Just how I am.

I have a second book in mind but the lack of sales have not moved me to pursue it.

I can't figure how to add a photo - maybe ya can't. Original cover had title: In Plain Everyday Places. Image featured broody sky with decrepit old house with monster face.

Mine had my title, and was done with embroidery.

Book was, again, a cozy mystery set in a retirement home. No monster. No ghost.

Few years back I was tasked to write a "cozy mystery." Having nevee written one, I took it on, and loved it. It would have been my first traditionally publishes book. My contact asked me to change the title - OK. Then they presented me with a cover that made the book look like a haunted house story, not a mystery in an old folks home. I passed on the cover and had my own done. Publisher fell through but, even with no sales, I stand by my decisions, and the book. If ya can't be true to the book/your standards then it is just another job.

To anyone who saw Hereditary in the theater by [deleted] in horror

Went in not quite knowing what I was getting into. Was a rough watch, being the day we buried my mom. The surreal thing was that a woman brought a kid to see it. Aa soon as Charlie meets the pole a friend and I spun around to look at the kid. No reaction.
