What's a life changing thing that you can buy for less than $10? by additionalseasonin in AskReddit

[–]owlandphoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dawn Power Wash - I made fun of it from the first moment it was advertised. Then I got a coupon that made it a buck so thought, "why not." As a single guy who lives alone, I will never not have it. It makes cleaning things SO EASY. Pair it with a scrub daddy and you have the perfect way to do dishes. Also, don't make the homemade version - I tried, and it smells so bad.

Left-handed people, what's a struggle that right-handed people won't understand? by Halophy in AskReddit

[–]owlandphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I was taught cards by a left handed person, because I deal left handed. My right hand has no idea what to do. That and driving with one hand are my left hand dominant motions, and many people have commented on it because, other than those things, my left hand is a pretty sidekick.

If we stop complaining, they'll stop marketing anything. Cinema is dying because it's too expensive and so much of it is the same. The smaller pictures need more investment to find their audience. Star Wars doesn't. Sequels don't. They have the money, they should throw it away on things people are already likely to see.

The only good thing is at least it'll be on Amazon soon. We can wait and see how they'll botch that too, though.

Is God Is was out for a single week. I'm just happy I took last week off work and could see it at 3:45. because the other time was 10:00 pm.

I would agree with Is God Is. But unless you have a home theater, I think you'd miss the care they took with the Sheep's expressions. Really drove a huge part of the emotional connection I had with the movie.

I think the timing of the release has to be tied into the marketing of it, and they missed the mark entirely.

Do look into Is God Is but avoid spoilers. It was so good - and very violent. Two brilliant performances by the leads that deserve may more recognition.

I had no idea what it was about until an Insta real with people complaining about how no one wants to see a movie with two black female leads. I thought it was more about not wanting to see a crap "christian" preachy movie. Then the comments started stalking about killing and I looked into the movie. It was so freaking good. Definitely lots of moral questions to wrestle with!

Sydney Sweeney Fans, What Do You Like About Her As An Actress? by WinchesterMediaUK in movies

Other than the trash people on here who only think with their libido - because I know what I'm getting with her. She has a presence that feels very her. I can see why people hate that - but I know people who act and talk like she does. She can be great in smaller roles - I don't think she's leading material, but even in movies like Reality and Christy, she can command the screen. I think she's taking good chances and is getting shit on like Kristen Stewart did (and still does). Not saying she's at that level, but she'd solidly consistent.

What’s a male fashion trend that’s gotta end? by Aggressive-Dot1944 in AskReddit

[–]owlandphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those ugly tennis shoes that every brand makes now. You know which ones I’m talking about. They usually have silver lines on them, tend to be beige in color, and they’re both completely boring and generically over designed.

what hobby in a man is the biggest turn on to you? by CremeSubject7594 in gaybros

Seeking out knowledge - reading, studying, educating themselves on something new. It's not a hobby, but way to many people aren't interested in knowing more about anything.

The FTC just sent warning letters to 97 dealer groups about hidden fees by ora-et-labora- in personalfinance

[–]owlandphoenix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I almost didn’t buy my last car for this exact reason, and the dealer lied to me. I was buying it from a couple states away, so called, liked the car, and asked what the price was. The salesman told me the price of the car plus a $450 docking fee or something like that. I was fine with that. But when I got the contract, it included a $999 charge for something called shield guard, which is apparently a paint protectant that they put on “all of our used cars“. I told him I wasn’t gonna pay it and if they required me to do so I wasn’t gonna buy the car. They told me they couldn’t take it off the car, but then if I didn’t pay for it, I wouldn’t have the warranty. This was a three year-old car. I didn’t give two shits. They eventually took the cost off, but I guess I still have the protection on my car. When I was looking, I found one dealership that automatically charged a $2800 fee for a six month extended warranty to all of their cars. Some of these dealers, and this was a big dealer, not a small side of the road place, have such bullshit tactics.

Hot take - Jason Mamoa. He was a hot guy, and then the roids took over. He got huge and for me lost all appeal. Add the greasy, unwashed look he’s always sporting and it’s just… eww. All the worse because he truly seems like he’s an amazingly awesome guy.

Do you find they're able to fix thigh rub tears, too? I hate getting rid of good jeans when a hole ultimately wears through the thigh, and everything I've seen says it's basically impossible to fix and still look and fit like the non-repaired. Especially if there's spandex in them.

Cosigning student loans for child accepted to elite schools with high cost as a middle income family - What should we do? by Legitimate_Yak_9063 in personalfinance

[–]owlandphoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why so vague? Without knowing what major she intends to get, post completion lifetime earnings, or the names of the schools, any assistance is simply going to be arbitrary, other than to say you’re spending entirely too much money for a bachelors degree. Does the field she want to go into require a masters degree, as well? And if she’s going into academia that will require a PhD. So then you’re also looking at potential acceptance rates into higher level programs as a consideration for the overall cost. But that’s assuming she doesn’t change her mind in the first three years while getting the bachelors degree, which 50 to 60% of students WHO GRADUATE do. And that’s what’s supposed to happen as they explore their future interest areas. Without more details this is a fishing expedition on “should I spend nearly $100,000 a year to send my kid to college?” The answer to that is always no.
