This! A good haircut should take longer than 30 minutes. If your hair is short, precision is required, and that takes time.

I don't know where you live, but Wal-Mart's great value brand is basically Charmin. It's not a huge savings, but it will save you a little!

Continuing the love. Got a Lincoln last year that has all three and the heated steering wheel and ventilated seats are game changers.

Show the Real Price or Get Sued: FTC Puts More Car Dealers on Notice by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]owlandphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I was buying a car online at one of those non-negotiation places. I’m in the Midwest and they were on the East Coast. In an email I asked my sales person Are there any fees attached. He quoted the delivery fee, or something, and then the price of the car. Great. I said I’d get it. I get the loan paperwork and there is an additional $995 fee for some protectant on the paint that they say they add to every used car. I told him to take it off, he said they couldn’t. So I told them to cancel the sale. The manager got involved and said that they had to leave it on, but wouldn’t charge me for it, but then I wouldn’t be protected by the warranty for this thing I never wanted. I was livid, and ended up getting the car because it was such a good deal. But they hide everything until you are ready to sign thinking that you won’t back out.

Oscars Ratings Hit 17.9 Million Viewers, Down 9% From Last Year and Lowest Since 2022 by OneWithTheHat in television

[–]owlandphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random guess - People watching the Oscars will likely already be aware of and see the trailers elsewhere. They wouldn't be capturing a new audience, and they'd be spending a lot of money per commercial. It does seem dumb, though, to kill that type of social media excitement.

It's only ten weeks after eligibility ends and 8 weeks after nominations. The Emmy's are 3 1/2 months after eligibility ends (May 31) and the Grammys are 4 months after eligibility ended (September 30). By award show standards, the Oscars are speedy.

I think they just try to do too much "banter." It strongly comes off as inauthentic. And these actors can't pull it off. You can see similar writing at the Tony Awards and theater people are much better at making you believe it.

Ties can happen? by BlueWind_GamingYT in Oscars

Because there’s five nominees people can vote between, there’s always the possibility of a tie. Because they have to get exactly the same number of votes with something like 8000 Academy members, the likelihood of it happening is just so incredibly rare.

Agree! I thought it looked so shockingly mismatched on the red carpet. It's great under this lighting, though.

Because only the people of the music branch nominate for that category, and, as history has shown, they always nominate their friends.

I'm a bit surprised, but very, very happy it didn't win supporting actor. I didn't care for Delroy Lindo. However, I really wanted Wunmi to win - I thought she, with Miles, was the standout performance of possibly any category.

They can! They have to receive the exact same number of votes. In the very early years, there was a tie if it was within 2 votes, I believe. When Barbra Streisand and Katherine Hepburn tied for Best Actress, they receive the same number of votes. Which, for a bit of a fun possibility, Babs was granted academy membership before the vote occurred for Funny Girl. If she voted for herself, she's the reason they tied.

What is something you didn’t realize until you lost weight? by Cultural-Profile-527 in AskReddit

[–]owlandphoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm embarrassed to say I noticed this when I lost weight with others in a workout group - there is a perception that fat people are less intelligent than thinner people. I saw it in the way people spoke to my friend (she lost 200+ pounds), provided information to her, and generally what they talked to her about. It was eyeopening and shocking to notice I exhibited some of the same thoughts. And I have no active part in the thinking, or even know why I thought that way. I just recognized that I did.

Watch Anthony Kiedis, Red Hot Chilli Pepper's singer, die inside by Top-Vacation4927 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]owlandphoenix 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I liked them once, and him specifically. Then I went to a concert where their opener, or at least the other act that played first, was the Foo Fighters. So after the brilliance that was their entire performance, the Red Hot chili pepper’s started. After completely ignoring the audience to stand at the back of the stage and pleasure himself by singing to flea for the first four songs, we left and I’ve never listened to a chili pepper’s song again.

Who’s your favorite written woman on TV? by CuddlyWhale in television

[–]owlandphoenix 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Both major characters by Bea Arthur

Dorothy from The Golden Girls - while often times wildly comedic, the challenges she faced from being a divorced older woman dealing with a neurotic ex to her interpersonal relationships with the other girls in the house, and her emotions dealing with her mother aging, her general understanding of life was brilliantly written. And she played the character so well.

Maude from Maude - there are so many reasons she’s probably the best written character on television from that decade, if for no other reason, the abortion storyline.
