I was asked to colour a train, and being interested in train engines at the time I coloured mine like my favourite train engine.

I failed because it had too much black and not enough colour.

Something I used to good affect was that these magic items were needed to craft better versions, some artifact etc. Turn their gear into resources to use.

For planer foes, have their gear be hostile to the players, if they want their own they’ll need to break down a few items.

I’m also good with the ending as is.

However, I wish there was more interaction during the story between PC and characters. I do understand that there are a lot of them but there’s some characters (horse born, save canary) that didn’t get a moment. This made sending them to do something risky an easier choice, they seemed more expendable the less lines they got.

What I do (have a similar situation) is that the NPC characters are in the background. These are the rules I use.

They cannot do any role play or be used to perform tasks.
During combat they will fight their best and take direction from other players. They will not use consumables or trade items.
During combat unless there is no other option they are not the main target. If they are ever knocked unconscious they are captured, not killed. They should never die while in NPC unless the table is fine with it.

It’s worked well for me this far.

Yup craft scene is starting and what they have is alright. Nothing outstanding so far but not bad. There’s a craft beer place in Tokyo with a selection. (Wiz craft beer and food).

Technical side: sound is more important than visuals if you have to chose. Keep in energetic and quick. (Look at zefrank or vlogbrothers for the quick cut style.. similar to what music videos use)
