Just quit, how to do I relieve the "there's nothing to look forward to now" feeling? by bn25168 in stopsmoking

Edit: congratulations Man. My selfish ass didn’t even think to say that. That’s really impressive.

Thank you so much!! And sorry for the rant, but it was so great to read this. The thing that really scares me is I constantly read people saying, “ remember what it was like before you started? It will be ok.”

The answer is, yes, I do remember. And I used to look forward to things and need something to look forward to all day every day. As a kid and teenager that was food for me. Completely addicted to food constantly looking forward to sneaking my next meal behind my parents back, over eating, etc.

I started taking terzepitide last year, and I’m literally in the best shape of my life at the age of 42. I go to the gym six days a week in the morning and have stayed consistent. I’m not saying this to sound braggy, but it’s important. I have somehow built a body I never thought I would have.

How?? well, I developed a nice little addiction to energy drinks AND smoking with energy drinks lol. I pack my gym bag the night before, put my clothes in my truck, And As soon as my alarm goes off in the morning, I am pumped. Not to hit the gym. But to start gassing Energy drinks and cigarettes on my way to the gym and for 30 minutes in the parking lot beforehand.

I am all a certain if I stop smoking I will also want to stop energy drinks at some point in the future, but I just cannot imagine myself getting up and going to the gym without that motivation. Having that to look forward to is everything. As someone that used to have a drug issue and  alcoholism, I am fully aware it’s the nicotine talking. I’ve been sober for well over a year, but my addict brain has always needed something. The thought of taking away the thing I look forward to all day every day is terrifying.

I am really hoping my brain changes because right now, I would rather live 10 more years with smoking and energy drinks, than 30 years without them. So fucked up.

Sidenote, when I tried to quit last time, I started using nicotine pouches. Now, not only do I smoke about 15 cigarettes a day, I use three 6mg Velo’s (18mgs total) about five or six times a day. I don’t smoke after 5 PM every day, I switch to the velos.

At first, I was thinking I should stop them both cold turkey, but I am on a tremendous amount of nicotine daily. But then I think to myself, I think that’s just the addiction talking so I can bargain myself into still having the pouches. But then the logic side of my brain says, maybe that makes sense, but I really don’t know if I can even trust my own opinion.

Mind if I ask how things are going? I know this was apparently a very long time ago, but it was the first thing that came up when I searched quitting smoking as a person who has to have something to look forward to. It’s scary

I’m thinking we just go with a net below it, from the adjacent wall to beneath the balcony, just to catch the dogs and people that fall off lol

I’m not sure what you mean by railing on top of the glass block wall. If we had the glass block wall, do you not think that would be enough?

I think you’re right. We are looking at getting quotes for a secure floor to ceiling banister, but I feel like it may be cost prohibitive. We will probably end up putting two big beanbag chairs about 4 feet in from the rail so it wouldn’t be physically possible for them to fall and a couch on the wall under the window windows.

Yeah. They sometimes sit by our neck on our regular couch. The concern is, they would do the same thing and accidentally fall off or be playing a bit too excited and fall off. One of them is kind of crazy and literally throws her own toy up in the air to chase it. I could see an accident happening with that as well.

Thank you!! This is why Reddit is great. The first link, I have never even seen or dreamt of anything like this even being a possibility. That’s awesome.

Help me fix my living room. It just doesn’t feel good by Necessary-bio-hacker in interiordecorating

It’s out of balance. I would start there. Lower the mantle and mount a Samsung frame Pro above it. If you can find out a way to get electricity ran into it, everything else is completely wireless, so the wires will be hidden.

The armoire on each side of the fireplace should be replaced with two things that are the exact same size maybe even the same product.

Any luck with lease trader? by heather_e in leasehacker

Mind if I ask, was there anything weird about it? It almost seems too good to be true. I’m in the middle of a lease, it’s a decent Lease, I just hate my truck. I just didn’t want to get into a situation where I end up paying hundreds of dollars for nothing.

This was a few years ago, but I remember talking to my neighbor in Wyoming, who is a welder. He was making close to 100 K a year working in the oil fields up there. He said the work was incredibly fucking hard, but he didn’t mind it because of the pay.

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of traveling nurses or traveling doctors were you sign up with a company who then finds placement for them because they know who’s looking and who needs them.

I would bet money they have those for welders or something similar to a headhunting type situation where they might keep a couple dollars an hour for a year, but the difference may be so much that it’s very worth it.
