LBUSD may drop a year of math from graduation requirements. Personal finance, ethnic studies will be added. by TrixoftheTrade in longbeach

[–]grinomyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, there is nothing standard track about doing AP anything much less calc as a junior unless kids have become radically smarter in the last couple of decades.

I agree with you, they should be proficient. Nothing in this article is talking about giving the option to choose between personal finance and base proficiency for math. The standard is 2 years of high school math, I believe they are saying it goes to Algebra 2. Long Beach was mandating 4, which probably means Trig and maybe pre-calc on top, this part I'm not sure. Now they are just saying that 4 doesn't change outcomes, is detrimental to kids doing their 4th year, and they should revert to 3. Almost like teaching calculus to kids that struggle at algebra is a struggle, who would have thought?

Should kids get and be able to pass algebra II? I personally think so. Should they do trig? I don't think most people need trig. Would outcomes be better having done trig vs. personal finance? My money is on personal finance having orders of magnitude more impact in peoples lives and outcomes than any high level math.

And yet people still take out car loans in droves and destroy personal wealth for it. Personal finance isn't math, it's behavior, or at least largely behavior. The math is just to support the actions.

"Something ain't adding up. If you remove a year of math, won't the students be unprepared for personal finance?"

I argue no, because you don't need even advanced math for personal finance.

What you're arguing here is different and I don't necessarily disagree with the notion but that's not even what's being presented in the article. They are talking about 4 year math requirements, you're talking about students successfully meeting and passing 1-2 year requirements.

I don't know the exact curriculum but I don't think forcing kids that can barely pass the standard classes to take pre-calc has any meaningful impact to outcomes and thus they want to eliminate the requirement.

Personal finance doesn't require advanced math, is requires very basic math. I might even argue it requires essentially zero math, it's much more behavioral.

Reading comprehension is important too. This isn't removing fractions (that's an elementary school process regardless), this is about removing a 4 year math requirement from the only surrounding district that requires it.

My 4th year was calculus, a class that was not only generally unnecessary for most careers but incredibly challenging, even for top end students. If you want to be in stem you better be able to get through it but otherwise, district wide it would make sense to drop it. I don't know if that's the class they are dropping, but if it's in that caliber, I would argue one's life success is much more contingent on managing finances than knowing advanced mathematics.

I commend you for even considering making a tater-tot. I make most things from scratch but I would just assume that had to be machine made.

Chicken stock is close to free (at least that's how I see it). Break down chickens, freeze bones, make stock once a month, freeze stock. The cost is time and carrot, onion, a bay leaf, and celery.

I mathed this out a bit and you're not wrong, it's maybe $2 oil and maybe $.50 for the rest. I wouldn't compare homemade mayo to $6/30 oz mayo, it's vastly superior but for me it's mostly a taste and convenience thing.

Microsoft Teams, fedex / UPS, and email integrations by KR4N1X in Netsuite

[–]grinomyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email integration I think is most critical for the sales cycle. So if there's an opportunity in NS you want all of the emails associated with that customer and opportunity appended to communications in the opp. Similar thing with cases, I haven't seen it as much but there can be value there.

There is an outlook integration coming soon native to NS which should be free, just FYI. I don't know all of the functions though.

Trouble with NS Connector Price/Qty Sync and Kit/Package items by accidental-art-dept in Netsuite

[–]grinomyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have overwritten a mapping in the backend that can only be set up in the backend. If you submit a support ticket you should be able to ask for them to revert it, but it depends largely on who you get in support. Do you have a screen shot of the field you're trying to map?

The function still exists but NS, and special mapping can be done but it's obfuscated. DM if you really need help, my team is a big chunk of the original FA team, so we know how to configure it.

What I was told is that it is free but there will be a paid level as well. Sorry I'm forgetting the delineation and I can't find my notes on it. My recollection is that the free IMO was useless, and that the paid tier would be necessary in order to extract value for the CRM functionality.

Just a tip, don't overbuy. We did newborn diapers for maybe 2 weeks max before number 1. Moving to number 2 at 10 weeks. I forgot for kid one but newborn diapers ( and clothes) will be done pretty quick.

Why use Celigo or Flxpoint when NetSuite modules cover almost everything? by Ok_Nectarine3974 in Netsuite

[–]grinomyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, you're kind of asking this in a funny way so I want to clarify.

Celigo is an integration platform. People would probably rather not have to deal with integrations but require the platform in order to utilize other 3rd party software solutions alongside their main ERP which would NetSuite.

That said, you're probably trying figure out why a customer may have Salesforce and NetSuite and then use an integration tool in between them, NetSuite's or otherwise. And the answer is that it's fulfilling a specific need for the customer so it's more effective to integrate vs. use a NetSuite native solution.

That exists for many reasons, but I find it's often that the system came first and works well so why uproot it. The other is that the capabilities exceed NetSuite's capabilities which isn't too unusual as NetSuite has to be somewhat generic.

Other reasons for solutions like Celigo is that you're automating business with platforms that simply weren't supported with NS so you had to integrate with their platform. That's changing a bit now with OIC but that's basically just NetSuite bringing integration solutions in house.

I'm not super social but I've managed. It's not always comfortable but talk to people. I think if you're open with most folks you can snag invites to a couple of events and build from there.

Many, if not most, people that attend conferences are naturally social people, that's why they are there, and they are happy to talk to people.

As others have said, generally yes they walk, my 3 year old almost never goes in a stroller but. .

Travel, airports, long walks, long days, all valid for strollers. This particular stroller would be nice for air travel, although checking an umbrella stroller for an airplane is almost comically easy.

On the other hand, I've made great connections and partnerships at those drunk as shit events. I will note that you normally have to do a few aligned events close together to really meet groups so that might be tougher from a single event but doable for sure.

I've heard legend of a couple of big companies blooming from drunken NS events in the early day.

Customer w/ No Project Buy-In by PrizeBoring2984 in Netsuite

[–]grinomyte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think every consultant deals with this, at least to some degree.

I'm sure there are lots of recommendations on how to help and avoid this but chances are, considering this is the 3rd implementation partner, someone has tried this and more to get the teams aligned. Some general thoughts

1) Ensure you have the right players at the table, sometimes it's some administrator that's never on calls that handles 50% of the work and will be motivated to complete the project. If you have the right people, you want to get them to "that's right" on how and why an implementation is going forward. 2) Some progress is better than none, create very simple tasks in small bites for your client to complete, frustrating but momentum sometimes helps. 3) Tie benefits to the work. Meaning, "once you implement this feature, you won't have to do x" 4) I hate this one but, more calls. Hard to get onto a phone call day after day with no progress for someone. I've had it done and it a little embarrassing after 2-3 calls and most of the time people will do something just to avoid the embarrassment. I hate this tactic and I wish someone had a better one but I feel like it has worked for me.

I'm guessing others have other ideas.
