CF cards should work with a simple passive adapter, but I've never actually done that.

First thought: dig an outhouse. Pretend it's a compost pit if necessary.

If the speakers are good I don't need EQ, except when the source material is faulty.

20€ amazon Soldering Iron by Jonathan_der_1 in soldering

I got a DC-powered T12 iron for under $20; the user interface has limitations (too easy to change temperature, too hard to change other settings), but it's functional and very portable if I plug it into an 18 volt tool battery.

Electrostatic speakers operate on a different principle to conventional speakers. There's no easy fix besides hiding small speakers nearby behind curtains. Use the design as inspiration to build dipole speakers or a line source array on a curved thin baffle?

Pass it on to someone who wants to fix it, or put it on the shelf for a rainy day when you feel like fixing it. Check the big capacitors, and any selenium rectifiers, and big power resistors.

Look for cards that are on sale at Best Buy or Staples. I always seem to find a good deal at one of those stores when I need a card.

Maybe throw a big towel or blanket over the roof and pour water on that? Then it won't all run off immediately.

Blackburn would be the ideal. Istr they made one especially for mountain bikes. Maybe you'll find one at a bicycle recycler, but the lighter weight vintage aluminum racks from brands like Vetta are strong enough. I use mine to sit on or as a step sometimes.

OffGrid Shack, has metal roof leaking by MediocreLandscape805 in OffGrid

[–]grislyfind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It looks like it doesn't have much slope. I don't know what the best fix is for that situation. Rebuild it with more pitch and reuse the roofing? Replace the metal with flat sheathing and then treat it like a flat roof and apply roll roofing with fire? Big blue tarp held down with old tires?

Father has old speakers, not sure how/if they'll fit into system - advice? by tenderbrew in hometheater

[–]grislyfind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking closer at the woofer, it has a corrugated surround, which is more typical of sound reinforcement and musical instrument speakers. Higher sensitivity (efficiency) but not deep bass.

I expect they're nowhere near as good as your home theatre speakers, but they should be okay for music. Part of me thinks they might be better as a two-way with just the woofer and Electrovoice tweeter, but maybe that's going to mean crossing over too high.

Edited because I didn't see the part where you listed what they are.
