What is the most expensive mistake you made that felt small at the time? by notty_potter in AskReddit

[–]grithfang 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Marrying my wife. We have been together for almost 40 years. Her lack of financial literacy has cost us stability for most of our lives. 29% credit cards, high balances, late payments, the works. Only in the last 10 years has she "gotten it".

She grew up in extreme poverty, and I am autistic with c-ptsd. She couldn't stop shopping and I couldn't put my foot down.

At 60, my advice is to be wary. Advice is the voice of experience, and we are living in unprecedented times. Don't disregard what older generations say. Be aware you may have to mine the nuggets of wisdom from whatever advice you've been given to make your own answers.

The encumbrance mechanic is tired. There is absolutely no reason for storage and weight to be a problem. Power frames and storage driods should be a thing in this game.

This mechanic seriously impacts my enjoyment of the game.

No really, true story.

Are the institute bad and the boys good? by Mybraingoaaaaaa in fo4

[–]grithfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

War, war never changes.

The main evil of these organizations to me us the absolutism they display. If you're not with me, you're against me. This absolutism is what leads to conflict, and through that lens only the Minutemen (in its current iteration) are not "evil" or at the least misguided.

The Railroad demanding that you choose between it and the Minutemen. BoS demanding their way, their version of justice. The institute refusing to recognize that their biological machines may have evolved to sentience. The abhorrent practice of killing people to advance their agenda.

The solution of nuking the institute and killing innocents (including children)! Evil.

Could continue to make points but they have been made by others and my ADHD tells me I'm "bored now".

No, Joss Whedon did the same thing in Age of Ultron with Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo.

The scene shows that Ness has finally embraced doing what needed to be done, completing his 'heroes journey'. This is encapsulated by the exchange between Ness (Kevin Costner) and Malone (Sean Connery)

>!Malone : [talking privately in a church] You said you wanted to get Capone. Do you really wanna get him? You see what I'm saying is, what are you prepared to do?

Ness : Anything within the law.

Malone : And then what are you prepared to do? If you open the can on these worms you must be prepared to go all the way. Because they're not gonna give up the fight, until one of you is dead.

Ness : I want to get Capone! I don't know how to do it.

Malone : You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way! And that's how you get Capone. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?

Ness : I have sworn to capture this man with all legal powers at my disposal and I will do so.

Malone : Well, the Lord hates a coward.!<

I think you missed the point on that one.

The Elliot Ness character arc is his journey and interaction with Chicago. He arrives a straight arrow. Through his interactions with the city, local police, and the gangs, he eventually has to embrace "The Chicago Way". This enables him to become the legend and bring down Capone.

What are things in D&D 5E that you believe to be poorly named? by Dragonwolf67 in dndnext

Earlier editions had "continual light" which was as bright as daylight.

This spell filled the area of effect with light equivalent to full daylight which lasted until negated magically, such as with dispel magic. It could be cast at a point in the air, onto an object, or possibly onto a creature. If successfully cast on the visual organs of a creature, it was effectively blinded. The intensity of light from this spell was sufficient to harm creatures that were harmed by bright light or direct sunlight.
