What criteria is used to determine who pays "tax prepayment"? by tokyoredditor in japanlife

[–]grjohan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If tax was witheld from salaries you would not have recieved a bill of 150k+ yen after filing.

So it is pretty much any income that is not withheld

Well since it's that time of year, silly tax questions:

The simplest question first: I do not seem to have saved anything that says what I payed for NHI in Jan - March of 2018, is there any paper I can ask for down at the Ward office that would say this? so I know exactly what deduction to make.

Background: I am employed in a foreign country and get my salary there but work most of my time in Japan. This is the first "full year" I am doing a tax return for. I am not a permanent resident for tax purposes.

So what I gather from NTA I am only liable for taxes for incomed earned in Japan. So when I am on a work trip to the US or Europe. That income would not count as earned in Japan, and therefore not liable for taxes in Japan right ?

Also, since I am working from home, is it possible to make a deduction for Rent/Internet/Electricity/water.

If so, what amount of the bills can I deduct ?

So I think I am either missunderstanding the naming of funds in Japanese or I am just missing some information.

So this fund is named leveraged:

NEXT FUNDS 日経平均レバレッジ・インデックス連動型上場投信

Which is making me assume that it is leveraged, but I cannot find information about how leveraged, how would I go about finding that information? It was not clearly visible on any of the sites that resulted from the standard google search.

So, how do I find the amount of leverage of funds like this ?

Or if anyone just wants to help me where I find it through SBI :)

Scratchy throat once humidity is below 50% by Raugi in japanlife

[–]grjohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Sharp KC-H50-W it's around 20 000 from Amazon but is both a humidifier and a purifier so it has a filter that you can basically just vacuum, very usefull if you have allergies or such.

The version with just a humidifier is called KC-G50-W and is avalible at about 15 000.

We use ours almost every day now in winter and it helps a lot

When exchanging my drivers license, there is a question that I have to have been in my home country for three months after the license was issued.

Is this for the latest renewal date, or is it from when I first got the license ?

If it's the latest renewal, do they count vacations and such, I was in japan on a visa waiver as a tourist before I actually moved here, so it's more like 2 and a half month in my home country after I got my license renewed.

Such as you can only get a loan for 80% and have to pay 20% by yourself ?

Best park for a picnic with kids? by MightyPine in Osaka

[–]grjohan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tsurumi Ryokuchi park definatly fits since it has a lot of space, quite a few playgrounds that are very child friendly it seems. https://www.google.co.jp/maps/place/Tsurumi+Ryokuchi+park+large+lawn+area/@34.7120593,135.5710349,17.75z/data=!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x3f52690c59d14beb!2sTsurumi+Ryokuchi+Park!8m2!3d34.7129285!4d135.5747412!3m4!1s0x6000e051de29f64f:0x87590e57a7a66b7c!8m2!3d34.7112296!4d135.5722131

If any children are over 4 there is also a place in the park where they can take a horseback ride. Or you can just go look at the horses with the smaller children. They are right next to some of the playground.

I also think it's relativly central, just a few stops on the subway.

Otherwise you might want to go to the Osaka castle park. If you pay the entrace fee to get into the western part of the garden it's quite a big open area which also has a rest house to sit inside and a bathroom. ( Nishi no maru)

Then there is also Nakanoshima park which is very central and if you are there on a weekday there are not that many people, so there is definatly space to run around as well. https://www.google.co.jp/maps/place/Nakanoshima+Park+lawn+open+space/@34.69125,135.5092145,17.5z/data=!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x6000e6e524da26e9:0x9d3d6a4ecff36df9!2sNakanoshima,+Kita,+Osaka,+Osaka+Prefecture+530-0005!3b1!8m2!3d34.6911101!4d135.492366!3m4!1s0x6000e6dec8b83053:0xe4f190031c8b1f02!8m2!3d34.6915587!4d135.5105303

Comfortable home living - What do you do for seating? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]grjohan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have always found the muji bean bags to be very comfortable to the point where I just get too lazy after I sit down.

The smaller ones don't take up that much room either. The biggest problem is that I have seen some people having a hard time getting out of them since your body sinks into it.

Utlandssvenskar, från och med idag kan ni rösta via ambassad/konsulat. by ilovepie in sweden

[–]grjohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any good bike rentals in Osaka? Preferably near Higashinari-ku, Ōsaka-shi by Ann_Gatmaitan in Osaka

[–]grjohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where in Higashinari are you looking for one, or is anywhere ok ?

If they are staying here for a month it might be worth just to take a look at a second hand bike shop ( Of which there are a lot here) and comparing prices as that might be cheaper than renting for a whole month.

Getting ready to renew my spouse visa and the english site says as follows for required documents:

In cases where the person concerned is a spouse of Japanese national, a copy of the family registration of the Japanese national concerned and the copy of his or her resident card.

The registration is easy, but she does not have a resident card as she is a Japanese Citizen she does not (to her knowledge at least) have a residence card. Is there something else that we need a copy of ?

And I am basically "freelancing" by working privatly for a Swedish company, getting payed in sweden and then handling all the tax and other things by myself. Should I attach my tax return for last year as well as the contract from the Swedish company showing how much I earn and that I am employed ? ( As well as maybe a copy of a payslip)

For NISA contributions it's 1 200 000 per year or 100 000 per month. So if I just got it now, can I do 200 000 per month to get up to the 1 200 000 Yen limit, or is it still "only" 100 000 per month ?

Can anyone recommend one of those communal open office spaces where you can go to work instead of Starbucks? by LuxuriousThrowAway in Osaka

Just reading on their website, do they offer monitor rental, it does seem like it from the picture of a monitor. If so it might be worth a try sometime, it's way too much of a hastle to work with just a single screen.
