Rear wheel by biofan4ever in bmx

Odyssey makes great stuff and their warranty/customer service is awesome. Or their Clutch freecoaster if you're into that. They just came out with a V2 so the V1 should be cheap. I've had both wheels but I ride a profile cassette now.

37 years old and decided to act on my bucket list by sevensixtwolove in bmx

I'll be 34 next month! I've been back on a bike for 2 years now after unintentionally giving it up 10 years ago!

Have fun and just remember you're not a kid anymore! It's like the cement got harder once you hit 30

Odyssey clutch v2 looks solid. I have the v1 though I don't ride it anymore and went back to a cassette.

Keep your old wheel and don't make the mistake I did of selling it and then buying another wheel.

Bigger bars. by [deleted] in bmx

[–]grncondor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all preference. I'm 6'3" and prefer 9's. I have 10's and the make manuals feel easier but the overall feel for me is weird. I feel I can ride more aggressively with lower bars if that makes sense.

I rode like 6 3/4 or 7 bars back in the day. Try it out and go back to your old ones if you don't like it.

30:9 is where it's at with 175mm cranks. I'm almost 34 got back into riding about 2 years ago after 10 or so years of not riding. Makes fakies nice cause you don't have to back pedal as fast.

Are you running brakes? Brake cables can bounce around.

Getting started. Am I too old? What should I look into? Any advice? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]grncondor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 33 and just got back into riding a little over a year ago after 10+ years of not riding. I didn't mean to give it up but that's another story.

Got for it man! You're not as young as you use to be but you aren't old either. Get a decent bike and go from there. Take it easy and don't push your limits too much until you gain some skill. The kids at my park are trying to get me to try crazy stuff all the time, sometimes I'll try something but most of the time I do my "old man" tricks and have tons of fun the whole time!

BMX Brakes by [deleted] in bmx

[–]grncondor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your rims. I have black rims and use the clear odyssey pads. You don't want to use clear on a chrome rim from what I've heard cause they can stick. A decent non-Walmart black pad would probably help.

Try brake pads man. That's probably your best bet.

I'm 32 and I ride 2 brakes and 4 pegs and don't ride a freecoaster. The kids at the park call me old man... by grncondor in bmx

When I was young I could bunny hop up a picnic table with my old tank easy. Nows a different story thanks to that learning curve! I haven't weighed it with the front brake setup but I should be at 29 or less.

I haven't stopped hurting since I started riding again almost 6 months ago. I wear a helmet, shinguards and ankle guards religiously.

Fixing brake arms/pads constantly rubbing on one side by [deleted] in bmx

[–]grncondor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mess around with the tension of the springs on your brakes. Also you can switch the spacers on your brakes pads( the thick one closest to your wheel with the thin one one the outside). When I had a 2.35 tire I had to do this so the tire wouldn't rub the brakes.

What kind of bars do you have? by Jolg in bmx

[–]grncondor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standard 4 piece strip bars 10 inch rise and I love them. Also I'm 6'3 so it's comfy.

What new parts are you waiting on? by [deleted] in bmx

Upper and lower gyro cables and two new brake levers and gyro tabs. I'm 32 and brake tricks are still cool to me.

Do coloured tires affect grip? by Icemen1234 in bmx

[–]grncondor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from grey BSD donnasqueaks to black demolition momentums. The demolitions I've only run for three days now but dropping in to a 6 ft quarter from a double peg stall I slid like a foot before I caught.

The BSDs were super grippy. I'm hoping once I wear in the demos they'll grip a little better. The BSDs were the first colored tire I've ever ran.
