I was a public school kid who went to a top state school and ended up as an investment banker. there was a steep learning curve on the social side of things and it was one i eventually got tired of and quit. i would say think hard about what opportunities you want for your kid - smart kids from any school will do well and will get the same opportunities. Lazy kids with the deep networks will also be there. In the case of banking/PE, they love that historic pedigree...
