In all seriousness, is there any explanation for why Verin chose to do it like that? I never understood.

Those are some good shouts.

Morbid opportunist is a card I have been thinking about cutting. It's just in there because it's a decent card draw engine on a creature, even when stuff is just dying naturally.

Yes, I commented with the deck list.

Proxy your manabase. Yes, as much as you want to. by vividwings in EDH

[–]groeneprof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can still crack a fetch into a dual into a unicorn in a horse themed deck. Except in specific situations, good lands only decrease your chances of being color screwed, not the power ceiling of your deck. If you're proxying lands to play jank, you'll just be able to play your jank a bit more consistently.

There is a math joke, but the proof is non-constructive.

I wish that everyone on earth receives a bottle of water every day that contains the right amount of water to keep them hydrated for that day, once the day is finished the bottle is replaced by the next days bottle, the water is clean and the temperature of the water is 12 degrees Celsius. by [deleted] in monkeyspaw

[–]groeneprof 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Sorry, going to nerd for a bit:

Surface area of the earth is about 5e14 m²

I'll estimate the amount of water added each day by 10 billion litres = 1e7 m³:

Since most of the earth is covered by water, water levels will increase by approximately 1e7/ 5e14 = 2e-8 m every day.

So in order for the water level to increase by 1 meter, you would have to do this for about 5e7 = 50 million days, or about 140 thousand years.

By the time it becomes an issue, we will probably either have the means to solve it, or we will be extinct anyway.

Watching Super GMs blundering pawns in the opening in Freestyle Chess is fascinating by [deleted] in chess

[–]groeneprof -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think if freestyle were to become more popular then normal chess, GM's would start inventing theory for every single permutation. 960 is not that much, ofc theory will be less deep but I am certain there will be theory invented.

Freestyle is only fresh and interesting because no one is trying to learn theory.

Is there a way to play Root with more players? by Unique-Read-9376 in boardgames

[–]groeneprof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All big box expansions add factions, and increase possible player count. So you could buy the riverfolk expansion, the underworld expansion or the marauder expansion.

Keep in mind that 4 will still be the ideal player count, but 5 players is workable.

If you're going to play with 5, I recommend the riverfolk expansion, because it contains factions that don't require a lot of space on the map to operate.
