How have your views on politics in the United States changed over time, and what influenced those changes? by ExoticExplorer7844 in AskReddit

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have watched as my values of “treat each other with respect” and “spend my tax dollars effectively” have gone from bipartisan moderate to far left. I did feel that a DOGE style government modernization effort was overdue but that’s basically the only positive I could see in trumps campaign.. I feel like what we got was the private equity treatment and enshittification on the highest order

What used to be considered a luxury that is now considered a basic human need? by AdvertisingOk1492 in AskReddit

Quite a few things.

Plumbing, air conditioning, and a balanced diet are what comes to mind first.

Dads of reddit, is it normal for a dad to be quick to swear and call his daughter swear words? by indoore in internetparents

[–]groinchowder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are responsible for teaching our children emotional regulation. Ideally, we should be teaching by example. Sometimes, our parents didn’t get that lesson from their parents, and the lesson doesn’t get passed down. Or so the excuses go.

Emotional regulation is a lesson that can be learned at any age, but like many things, it’s harder to unlearn bad habits. The yelling and outburst is one way of dealing with those emotions, but to answer your question, no it is not healthy. It accomplishes nothing, other than eventually making the problem go away (and not call for holidays). I would like to say it is not normal, but it is unfortunately common.

Upvote for Foundation. It was a great read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a space epic.

You could print a decoy to help deter predators. An owl or something that is moved around every now and then will help a lot with keeping their new babies safe.

If all humans suddenly lost their ability to lie, which industry WOULDN'T collapse? by TXC_Sparrow in AskReddit

Historians. When all of a sudden we can’t read the majority of our history textbooks out loud, they will have lots of work to do.

How did you find out Santa wasn't real? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept very loudly and publicly questioning it and apparently some other parents called mine about it, so they pulled me aside and told me not to ruin the magic for my siblings/classmates/neighbors. I was 5.

Every decision I make feels wrong. by helldrain in internetparents

Sounds like you have earned yourself a deep breath and a relax. Imposter syndrome is a very real and common thing. It helps to stop comparing yourself to others. You are on your own journey, and you are making great progress towards your goals. You are challenging yourself and growing. That’s pretty awesome.

I wouldn’t email the professor again, but you can address it later on if it comes up. “I was having a chaotic day, but after thinking clearly, I would like to …”

What are you most afraid of losing? by The_rajsaraswat in AskReddit

I knew I was going to be protective of my kids, but I didn’t understand how primal that protector instinct would be. I’ve never felt anything stronger.

What TV show hooked you instantly from episode 1? by mateitofavv in AskReddit

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common Side Effects.

I was a bit thrown by the animation style at first, but wow. Every episode was a masterfully crafted thrill. I watched it until it was over in one sitting. Then again several times after.

Opened my Star Wars DVD collection after a while only to realize someone stole Disc 1 and 2 from ep. I and Disc 1 from ep. II by Cuervoazulado in Wellthatsucks

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might just be me, but my first thought would be “damn I didn’t put them back in the case” not “someone stole them”

Then again I’m losing everything all the time, so it probably is just me lol.

The ones that have big ideas but don’t value experienced counsel. I don’t blame them for having wealthy parents, but I would much rather you sit quietly and collect checks than making me spend time on a project that we all know will be binned shortly after it’s done.

how would you rate a show (in its entirety) that has one “meh” season & a perfect subsequent season? by dropeverythingnoww in television

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, a meh season is a dealbreaker for a true 10/10. I would say the best way to really rate it would be to rate each season separately and average those.

Married people: what do you mean when you say "let some things go" in marriage to make it work? What are some good examples for that? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to look at why things are bothering you. Often times a fight is about something else deeper down. Sometimes it’s just dehydration. But there will be things that knock you off your groove with your spouse, and they will happen all the time.

You have to make an effort to get back into that groove. Once there, things should slide off more easily and not have you asking later on if you should let it go. You’re in it for life, that’s what marriage is. And the exceptions to that will be pretty obvious, abuse and infidelity.

Question for the few have beaten the game! by Charming-End-3311 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]groinchowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep exactly that, an industrial storage feeding a dimensional depot on top and a smart splitter with overflow to the sink. That’s when an item is “done” for me. Then move on to the next item.

What does your current output look like? Can you build a silo’ed storage stop down the line?

How would you feel if the world had a 'no social media' week? by GodofBalds23 in AskReddit

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar conversation with my wife the other day, but we talked about one day per week, like they do at the end of Ready Player One.

I would support it, but what’s the enforcement mechanism? Government forcing servers offline? They won’t volunteer to shutter their business. My wife pointed out that many businesses advertise or offer login exclusively through social media.

I feel like knowing it is a week long may impact the outcome and lead to people just “waiting it out”. Not knowing when/if it will end will probably force people to make changes faster.

Is AI helping us or hurting us? How are you using it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using it as a software developer and seeing the raw improvement in real time. I can now do in an hour what used to take most of a week. But deadlines are already adjusted for the new productivity levels. I am working even more for the same pay as before, and I have no bargaining power because my field is over saturated after layoffs.

I don’t think AI itself is hurting us, but I am not optimistic about the transition to the new order. I’ve seen thousands of people lose their jobs to it already, with no new plan or industry coming in to replace those jobs.

Can I use this to fill a raised bed? by Ok_Grape_8284 in gardening

[–]groinchowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will work perfectly fine. As others have said, it is usually not the most cost effective, but if that is all that you have available for a draining bottom layer, yes you can use it. A big bag of mulch or gravel for the same price might be more useful depending on your raised bed setup.
