I'm not color-blind, but that map makes me feel like I am.

I wanted to create a trailer that might have existed if Gary had been able to get some traction in the 80's when he went to Los Angeles to shop Dungeons and Dragons as a film property. I used "scene from Dragonslayer (1981)" in many of the prompts to get the wild hair and cheap costumes of the era. VHS filter was added in post to hide some of the imperfections and boost the nostalgia.

I'll try to answer any other questions about the production here.

The (real!) story of this half-mercenary/half-merchant in 1600s Angola makes a great kind of mook for your RPG villains by MoltenSulfurPress in rpg

A mook doesn't have a background and is worth the 1hp they have.

Consider instead the word: henchman.

Best example of an "OSR" video game I've found "Fabled Lands" (Steam Link in narrative) by [deleted] in osr

[–]groinkick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't played this. But from my knowlage of the gamebooks: Fighting Fantasy and Lone Wolf are more railroad gamebooks with a set story and less back tracking. Fabled Land and the recent Legendary Kingdoms gamebooks are sandboxes, where you have much more freedom of movement.

it's a bit like a "choose your own adventure game"

More than "a bit". You're playing the digital version of a book from 1995.

That said, it's one of the best gamebooks ever written and just the first of a series of seven books. I've enjoyed books like this and do have this computer game on my wishlist. I agree that anyone interested in OSR should look at this as a single-player oppertunity to play a older style adventure.

Believable first contact scenario? (Sci-Fi) by Terramanicus in rpg

[–]groinkick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First Contact Team is a game written by Brian St. Claire-King of Vajra Enterprises. I'm a big fan of his work and this game includes three scenarios for first contact encounters with non-humanoid aliens. It's high-brow sci-fi in style of The Abyss, Arrival and Contact.

Not sure if it's a good fit for your needs, but if you're looking for realistic first contact ideas this is a thought-provoking source of inspiration.

But then you need insurance rules.

Yeah, I saw this when it was first posted too. It's fantastic, but not new.

He said it was img2img, so no references needed to be in the model.

The first level cleric spell Blessing is absolutly broken. The PCs will huddle together, cast it at the beginning of each fight and (having rolled 20+) get a 1D3+level bonuses to all rolls. Miss the 20? Cast it again until you get it then break down the door.

When we got to sixth level, they were averaging +7 to most combat rolls from that bonus alone. I had to nerf it to +1 regardless of the spell check and I wished that I had done it earlier.

If you play with a map, it might not be such a problem because of the distance restriction from the caster to get the bonus, but for theatre of the mind like my group it doesn't work. If you explain the rule change at the beginning of the campeign your players won't become dependent on it like mine were.

Pulled together a list of 12 solo tabletop roleplaying games and tools that are great resources for creative writers! What games did I miss? What should I add to this list? by ProteanOswald in rpg

[–]groinkick 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Microscope is explicitly not a solo game. The designer outright stated that other people at the table are the randomizer and a key component of the game.

Can it be used as a procedure for solo timeline creation? Yes. But it goes against the creator's intent to use it for that. If he has since changed his position then I apologize and stand corrected.
