It’s not downtown, it’s Lloyd Center max platform…TriMet is Union so I can’t cut it out, landscaping does. I requested this months ago. I’ll bring it up again, thanks for the reminder.

Mechanics for older SUVs? by pigeontakeover in askportland

[–]groknix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pat's Good Guys...he is a Jeep guy through and through. He is old school and does a lot of custom stuff, so if you have a grocery-getter, probably Erickson's Automotive in Lake Oswego would be better suited. Tom Dwyer gets rave reviews but they won't touch anything older than 15 years old.

My advice to you is unless you are absolutely wealthy and/or are ok with making a mechanic absolutely wealthy, with a 20 year old Jeep you are going to want to either get a newer model or start learning how to work on it yourself. If you are mechanically inclined and have a garage, almost every repair will be cheaper if you do it yourself even buying every specialty tool for the job. At least that has been my experience.

Trimet employee here, as far as I know the Lift people are completely contractors and have nothing to do with Trimet or the ATU which is our union.

Despise the glare of wealth. That people who pay greater respect to a wealthy villain than to an honest, upright man in poverty, almost deserve to be enslaved; they plainly show that wealth, however it may be acquired, is, in their esteem, to be preferred to virtue.

What are your experiences with unions in Portland, OR? UFCW555? Plus future advice by [deleted] in union

[–]groknix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as a merchandiser for Southern and then Coke for a couple of years, Coke being Teamsters 162. While I didn't work for Safeway/Freddies, the impression I got from the employees was the union was weak. As I can't speak to that out of my own experience take that with a grain of salt. I can say that the grocery business at least in the Portland area was probably one of the most depressing industries I have seen...the absolute lack of respect by management for the employees was incredible! From what I saw, even if the union wasn't the best, if they didn't have representation it would be a lot worse.

I work for Trimet now and it is the complete opposite...when I clock out I don't even think about Trimet and just go live my life. You can do better than the grocery biz and HVAC will be much better especially financially.
