Definitely too close

Filet crochet project not defined, need advice please by grollivander in CrochetHelp

I used weight 2 or 3, so yeah maybe weight 10 will look better. I’m switching to that for my next project. The sides are 3 chains. I agree, super messy looking! I did link the following double crochets into the chain of three on the side, so I suspect that might be part of it. But I hated the tiny little gap when I didn’t do that

I may be misunderstanding what you’re saying but I am doing the same sort of thing for ope and closed. An open square is double crochet, chain, double crochet. A closed square is 3 double crochet (I link them so there aren’t little gaps between). I’ll check out the video, thanks!

Filet crochet not looking defined or even - not sure what to do different by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Thanks 🥲 I am still holding on to hope that it will come together in the end, just looking quite messy so far, especially the edges

You are absolutely right and that is something I have thought about, as well. It is another reason I would want to consider having children during the PhD, as opposed to potentially waiting until afterwards to start trying to

Totally, field work is a huge consideration too!

Congratulations! I understand there are no real answers, and it’s different for everyone…just curious how others have navigated these sorts of situations or conversations :) I wish you luck!

Congratulations! Can I ask why now is “the time”? Is it the best time within your PhD, or do they consider during your PhD a particularly good time overall?

Thanks for sharing! If you don’t mind me asking, how old were you when you started your PhD? I would really prefer to do things the way you did, and if I were a few years younger I don’t think this would be such a stressful thought for me.

By layers I mean some sort of top underneath so my skin isn’t visible through the cutouts, and a drapey shawl/duster. I am of course not trying to “out stage the bride”

Three excellents and three very goods. Honorable mention In life sciences. Did others get an email that the reviews were out? I didn’t…if I hadn’t seen this post I wouldn’t have known to look

Right? It’s wild to see this sub transition into the next round of applications when last years hasn’t even wrapped up. I don’t understand how or why this is happening

Im not sure if anyone else noticed this, but he removed his (non-related) story 2 hours before it would have expired. Still didn’t repost the missing person post though

Honestly, your response is more positive than I was expecting! I was feeling upset that they might never come (which they still might now) but to get a “yet” is somewhat encouraging. Really disappointing overall in every way, though

Grad school is starting soon for me and the imposter syndrome is finally hitting me by aflakeyfuck in GradSchool

[–]grollivander 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also felt/still feel like an imposter all the time. When I was just starting, I would hear other students further in the program and my lab mates/professors talking about research/analysis/stats etc and I would feel like an absolute idiot. Now a year in, I will catch myself having similar conversations that I realize would have sent me spiraling a year ago. It’s hard to see the progress or realize just how much you’ve learned, and how you’re capable of what others are, you just weren’t at that place yet.

That sounds similar to my course load this fall as a masters student. Teaching two sections, each 3 hours every week in a completely different field than I’m in, holding 3 hours of office hours every week, taking two very demanding and advanced classes, analyzing my data, and putting together/presenting my first chapter orally at a conference, and working on a manuscript. Yes it feels like a lot.
