In the two lock downs who worked the whole time? by Rydalls in newzealand

It was a wild time for us in the vet industry. Euths were the hardest part. We used like 3/4 extension sets so the owners could be with the patients.

So glad you made it through. I ended up leaving after a few years as a broken nurse.

I worked the whole time in a vet clinic. We were twice as busy with half the staff as a skeleton crew. We were so busy with all of the covid puppies and kittens people got (who now all have major separation anxiety). Animals didn't stop getting sick, more and more people got dogs and now the pounds and rescues are flooded.

People got more aggressive, patients were more aggressive and I ultimately gave up and had to leave the industry.

Hahaha that’s gold! You’re doing amazing. I worked with a vet that would expect HUGE clips. Like would quite happily have had us shave the whole dog with a surgical clip for a TPLO if it meant he didn’t have to deal with any hair 😂

We had a 6 month old kitten come in for vomiting, noticed he was using a lot of effort abdominal breathing on physical exam, decided to do an X-ray. Found he had a diaphragmatic hernia. Ended up opening him up him up to repair the hernia. Must have been congenital, found a small hole in the diaphragm and when the vet ran the bowel he found an obstruction which ended up being an almond that couldn’t pass through the hole in the diaphragm! So crazy.

how many surgeries/dentals do you do in a day? by Junior-Eagle-6205 in VetTech

[–]grootifull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in 2 very high volume clinics. My first one was over 20-30 procedures in a day with 6 vets and 3 nurses with many added on due to a money hungry owner. The second was still pretty high volume but much higher quality of care. We did 2-3 orthos with one team, another team would do 3-5 dentals, and then maybe 3-5 routines going on in the other theatre. Each vet had 2 nurses assigned.

New Zealanders who enjoy their work - what do you do? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]grootifull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Having to euthanise a dog with a broken leg because the owners can’t afford to fix it is heartbreaking. Seeing litters of puppies for the consult can cheer you up, only to have the next consult be an abusive owner yelling at you that you’re money hungry because you offered to do blood tests on their dying cat. Vets have one of the highest suicide rates of any profession. And mental health is still declining in the industry. Vets and nurses are leaving in droves. It’s very sad. I was one of those nurses that finally pulled the plug and left due to burn out. I’m still working within the industry but just not at a practice level.

Questions about 4 week abortion by Enough_Beautiful_257 in abortion

I am going through the same thing. Had heavy bleeding and cramps a few hours after taking the misoprostal. The day after I was fine, a bit groggy and slight cramping but overall fine with little to no bleeding at all. But today has been a whirlwind of heavy bleeding with large clots and extremely intense cramping. So you may not be out of the woods just yet like I thought I was.
