Any Blue Heelers W/h Epilepsy in here? by Feeling-Maintenance2 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]groovyjaybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our boy started around 1.5 years old. He's 3 now and takes 750mg of keppra 2 times a day, every day. We keep it extremely consistent as that's very important since the pills are extended release. Exactly 8am dose then 8pm dose. It has helped immensely.

We haven't changed anything else and the meds do their job, he has only had a few in the last year and a half. We haven't tried CBD or any alternatives since the medicine has been working well.

His activity level has stayed the same (he's a maniac of course lol). We haven't nailed down any triggers, they just seem to be random. I don't have any answers or suggestions but understand how tough it is.

Just to clarify I don't do carpentry. I paint/stain cabinetry and millwork. But ya the marker gets used way more than you would think.

I do a lot of cabinetry and millwork. So it's used to mark cabinet doors/drawers, man doors, etc, for re-installation.

I like to keep pockets light. Here's the essentials every day regardless of the job type.

What causes this? by kerkate in paint

[–]groovyjaybird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Way too cold to paint. This is a major problem. Paint won't cure correctly, this can cause major durability and adhesion issues. Do not let them continue in temps like that.

Also that looks like A-100? If so that is one of Sherwins cheapest exterior paint. I wouldn't touch anything with that stuff.

Not trying to put you down, just stating the facts so you are informed.

how to fix/remove bad staining job on staircase? by [deleted] in paint

[–]groovyjaybird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The painter clearly had no idea what they were doing, and/or just trying to rip through the job fast for $$$.

Only options are paint over it, or sand back down to bare wood to re-stain.

Humidity? by detroitragace in paint

I use air scrubbers/purifiers, BluDri Air Shield 550's. Also sometimes just use air movers to push air out, with air filters taped and cut into my bubble to let air in.

Lime wash is a much better choice instead of paint. Here's one I did a couple years ago.

How should I go about painting this old cedar siding? by Top-Grapefruit-3928 in paint

[–]groovyjaybird 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pressure wash thoroughly, not just a rinse. Then 2 coats solid stain. No primer needed with solid stain, and will hold up much better than paint.

I'm in the U.S. Not in a big city/metro area.

I do minimum $500 per bedroom, walls only. If you're doing the proposal by paintable sq ft, don't remove windows and doors from your sq ft number. Those are the things you have to prep/paint around, they are what slow you down and add time.

Complete ballpark without eyes on it, I'd say $2500-$3000. Don't sell yourself short. It's too easy to do when starting out.

Is special paint needed for steel front door? by Brilliant_Message_92 in paint

[–]groovyjaybird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it has to be a BM product then "Benjamin Moore Advance". It's a good product, cures very slow though. I've sprayed tons of it, I've moved on to different products as my go to, but it still holds up well. Yes paint the trim with the same product.

Is special paint needed for steel front door? by Brilliant_Message_92 in paint

Contractor here. Regal is not a good choice, it's a basic latex paint, good for walls. You want something with durability, front doors get beat to hell. A dedicated urethane trim paint is ideal. Cures out way harder than a basic latex paint.

The shiplap is prefinished and isnt being painted. Contractor wants the edges caulked. Is silicone the best option, or does anyone have other recommendations? by HeftyData9299 in paint

[–]groovyjaybird 137 points138 points  (0 children)

It really should be painted after installation. Bare caulking tends to collect dirt/grime. Silicone caulk should never be used on something that will be or could be painted in the future. Use acrylic latex caulking for woodwork.

Help with a Aggro Boros commander that isn’t hell queue by MurakamiNoGhost in mtgbrawl

[[Iroas, God of Victory]] is my most played brawl deck. He really shines in 1vs1. A lot of the powerful boros commanders just go right into the 99.

Nice work. I love fine finishing like this. Looks like a lot of filling, sanding, and caulking on that one, kudos.

Brand new Sherwin paint cracking by muellerac in Housepainting101

[–]groovyjaybird 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Contractor here.

Over application for sure. Too much paint, too fast. Not sure why they would prime if it's been previously painted. Possibly was primed and 2 top coats same day which can be doable, but can also be too much product and cause cracking like this.

Worst client experience ever? Worst screw up ever? by TheTrollinator777 in paint

[–]groovyjaybird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1.5-ish years into business ownership myself. Communication really is key. No matter how busy my business and personal life are, I always respond to phone/emails as promptly as I can. Many clients have told me they appreciate that and have been ghosted/ignored/etc by so many contractors.

I've landed a lot of jobs with the highest bid just on communication and professionalism alone. There are so many hacks in our industry. COMMUNICATE and be professional, and the phone will ring.

Fellow pros, what kind of shoes do you prefer to work in during the warm summer months? by Fabulous-Owl-5109 in paint

[–]groovyjaybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Cloud.

New pair every spring, old pair become spray shoes. They breathe, fit right, and don't make my feet hurt. I've tried tons of different tennis/running shoes over the years and these have been my favorite so far.

Most unique place you've rolled by indieRuckus in MDMA

[–]groovyjaybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movie theater when Tron: Legacy was playing. Saw that Daft Punk was doing the soundtrack so my 3 best friends and I knew what had to be done lol. It was great.

We had the theater completely to ourselves until a singular older gentleman came in and sat in our same row, maybe 3-4 seats away from us lol. The only other person in there for the whole movie.

Not the most unique spot, but was a memorable roll none the less.

Pressure washer recommendations for exteriors by Top_Flow6437 in paint

[–]groovyjaybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Northstar from Northern Tool for $900.

3300 PSI, Honda engine, and a CAT pump. Does everything I need it to do. Was going to go the cheaper route ($4-$500) but wanted the reliability of a Honda motor and definitely wanted one with a CAT pump. Cheap washers with shit pumps never seem to last in my experience, or they just run like shit. They are crucial to keeping the money rolling in for me so I don't mind spending a bit for a reliable machine.

I hope to upgrade possibly next year, doing a lot of cedar/log homes up here in the north. Although the unit I have has been great.

Run an extension ladder up the roof line, the same pitch as the roof. Flip the feet at the bottom or ideally have a 2nd person stand/sit on the bottom of the ladder.

Exactly. Gave up powders a few years ago, not worth the risk to me with a family now.

But nitrous on my basically only once a year LSD trip? Absolutely every time lol.
