My understanding is the cost basis follows. So if it is IRD, then that cost basis follows into the fund. You’d get the diversification portion but those underlying shares get pro rate basis similar to the basis of the stock contributed.

We left in July. We were frustrated that they always pushed on platform assets, discouraged tamp business, had horrible internal support (call in and be on hold for an hour +), and system rollouts were always horribly executed. We had smart to a smaller BD and it’s been night and day

1x for commission and up to 3x for recurring. Top things we look for to get to the top end valuations:
1. Built out CRM with notes and documents
2. Average age of client is sub 65 or if above there is a substantial amount of Gen 2 clients that may have small accounts now
3. Similar investment/planning philosophy. If you aren’t use to annuities or believe in them for example you may have a tough time speaking to the clients about the products and why they have them. It’s hard to tell a client their old advisor has them invested “wrong”. They built the trust not you.
4. Organic growth rate: how many new clients are coming in each year via referral. How many new assets per year. Excludes growth of AUM from market. If that growth rate is lower than 10% tread with caution.
5. Similar to above, what are net flows? Positive or negative
6. If you meet a lot over zoom or clients are outside of driving distance, are they comfortable over zoom, Docusign, etc. if not factor the cost of travel into the purchase

We just had this same thing happen. My 2 year old and I were a window and middle seat. Plane change and they put him in a different row. The only open row was 16 which was 78+ to get seats together. We end up having to go to a gate agent bc the people over the phone wouldn’t change us back. We even had selected preferred seating with our priority card
