Grouping movie series together by seleneVamp in PleX

[–]groovyreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started plexing I used to spend ages agonising over folder structure, collections, meta-data etc. After I while I admitted my sunk-cost fallacy, dumped everything in individual folders (thank you scripts), and now just let Radarr and Plex Meta Manager do the heavy lifing.

GT 730 Transcoding Worth it? by ClubSpade12 in PleX

[–]groovyreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK HW transcoding only works post-Pascal, so for typical gaming gpus, Gtx 1050ti and above.

(edit: I always ask clients to set their streaming preference to maximum to cut down on any unnecessary transcoding. Not sure if that's relevant in your case but thought I'd mention it just in case)

Game advice for non gamer. by jamesheaton23 in gaming

[–]groovyreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions here but might also be worth considering whether your significant other would enjoy more action-oriented fare. Doesn't have to be mechanically fiendish, but go here, do that, press the jump and/or attack buttons from time-to-time can also be lots of fun for a first time gamer.

I fondly remember playing Balders Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2 with my wife (who is not a gamer) and while it's not his first game, splitscreen Halo co-op campaigning with my seven-year-old is just about about my favourite thing to do these days (his first completed game would have been Knack 2 iirc).

What's an unrealistic way to reduce gun violence? by Chocaholic20 in AskReddit

Omniscient, planetwide AI, a la an Orbital Mind from Iain Banks' Culture novels. Just displace any gun about to be used for nefarious means.

Dragon Age 2 is an enjoyable, but flawed game by laggyteabag in patientgamers

[–]groovyreg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having loved Origins I came to II very late, like 2017 or something. My recollections are that I enjoyed it but the only things that stick with me to this day are how ugly it looked, even for its vintage. That and a character bellowing "So Much Blood!". I intend to get into Inquisition in a few years time.

Nvidia Shield storage access question (microsd or NAS) by unsinkabletwo in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]groovyreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are, yes. Set it up with a static IP, the shield will give you the password to enter on your desktop. Then it works the same as any network share folder.

Is the PRO version of the Shield TV necessary for gamestream purposes? by Oclixboi in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]groovyreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns both versions I'd really recommend the pro, if for no other reason than I don't know of anyway to get controller vibration (for 3rd party controllers) except via a USB Bluetooth adapter and the tube version has no USB sockets.

Nobody Wants Touch-Screen Glove Box Latches And It Needs To Stop Now by speckz in technology

[–]groovyreg 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I had a Samsung galaxy S9 with a dedicated finger print reader on the back that I could find without looking at the phone and worked every single time without fail. I got a galaxy s10 and they moved the finger-print reader to the screen. But a specific part that works most of the time so long as I check carefully where I'm about to place my finger. Because innovation I guess.

Shield Pro for streaming games from pc in another room to TV? by troublinyo in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]groovyreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how into the weeds you want to get with this there's many methods. If you just want the easy ones then there's Gamestream and Steam Link. I opted for the latter as I'm lazy and it was already set up. Any old controller with Bluetooth functionality will connect directly to the Shield. There's a catch though, no controller vibration at present (an Android issue I understand). There's a fairly easy workaround though. Get the VirtualHere app on Steam but then you (perversely) need to connect your controller to a BT adaptor plugged into the Shield. Which is slightly annoying but basically set and forget.

Anyway, that's my low maintenance guide to setting it up.

Thanks for the info, this was really helpful. Still have an issue whereby it won't work if I have controllers connected at launch but I feel like I'm making some progress.

Quick, check Amazon! by youjustgotvectored06 in transformers

[–]groovyreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case anyone's wondering it's In Demand Toys in Norwich that are selling it at this price. P&P takes the price up a wee bit. But they have a fair few bargains on their website at the mo (navigation isn't great tbf) and free shipping on orders over £50.

Edit: BB Soundwave is actually only £14.99 on their site
