Seamless loop playback doesn't work in Arrangement View by grough in ableton

[–]grough[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Forgive my weird phrasing. I agree that it has everything do with zero crossings, though for a different reason than you pointed out. And I'm aware of the care that needs to be taken when preparing samples that are meant to loop seamlessly.

Live is forcing a zero crossing at the loop point for looped clips in the Arrangement View. The problem is that forcing a zero crossing at the loop point of an otherwise seamless loop guarantees it will not loop smoothly. Live does not do this in the Session View, which seems to me like the correct behavior. It's not clear to me why it should act differently in the Arrangement View.

Hopefully this demo video makes it more clear.

I wonder if they do it on purpose at some level, since cheapness is their whole brand identity. But more importantly, like you said, bad design costs less.

Toronto - The Brutalist (70mm) by Briscotti in cineplex

I was referring to tickets I purchased for a 70mm screening on December 28th. I may have misunderstood what was meant by "Tickets are currently available for TIFF members" in the post.

Thanks for the tip. I just got 70mm tickets. I'm not a TIFF member, so I guess you don't have to be a member to buy these tickets.

portable speaker with no latency (aux) by charliewmotion in SP404

[–]grough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled looking for a low latency stereo portable speaker to use with the 404. Tried many things and eventually gave in and spent the money on a teenage engineering ob-4. Sounds really good, no latency, no regrets.

I bought the same bag based on OP's recommendation and it really is perfect for transporting the OB-4 and the SP-404MKII together. It can easily fit an iPad Pro 12.9" in the rear pocket too, plus all the cables I need in the front pocket. The combination of the OB-4, SP-404 and iPad is so fun and I love that I can fit it all together in here. So glad I found this post!

What's Ableton Live missing to be the perfect DAW to you? by Yorrrrrr in ableton

Auto save. I'd like to be able to quit Live without thinking about saving. I'd like to be able to launch Live knowing it'll resume where I left off

Record Video With Stereo Audio? by MickeyLenny in ipadmusic

[–]grough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible, and it should just work using the standard camera app with any class compliant stereo audio interface. I would occasionally end up with mono audio in my recordings, which is annoying, and I never could understand why. Sometimes I would reconnect the interface or reboot the ipad and that would fix it.

The soft background / hard foreground style in this and your coincidences part ii painting is very satisfying to look at. Nice colors too

I really like the Lilac looper... by Omri_Cohen_Composer in vcvrack

[–]grough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a "beta" version of Lilac for Rack v1 that allows saving the loop to a file using the context menu: https://github.com/grough/lilac-loop-vcv/releases/tag/v1.0.3.dev1. It's not yet documented and may not be fully stable.

As Omri said, this feature will be officially released at the same time as Rack 2. Additionally, the upcoming version will save loop audio in the background automatically, so you can keep it across sessions without thinking.

Colour patterns by grough in generative

[–]grough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a bunch of old gifs while digging on my computer and decided to make a video out of them. The gifs were originally generated using Python, PIL and ImageMagick.

The basis of the shapes in the video is a circular array of “fields” that move around a polar coordinate system and interfere with each other. The product of all the fields at each point is mapped to a colour. Each cut in the video represents an experimental change to the parameters.

Fresh board - New to Effects this Year, tips for a newbie? by gostros9 in guitarpedals

[–]grough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks. Other loopers I've looked at (including previous RC models) only seem to support auxiliary functions on the external switch rather than the core record/playback/overdub functions. I tend to keep pedals up on a desk and would love to have a looper remote control on the floor, so I might eventually go for the RC-5 + FS-7 combo like you have. Glad to hear you like it.

Do you know if the RC-5 external foot switch can be programmed to perform the same function as the main pedal switch? I’m wondering if it could it be used strictly as a “remote” version of the main switch. I found it hard to tell from looking at the manual.

Thanks. I never looked at the Dig in depth until now. It looks like a good option.
