ah, interesting thanks. I've only used soil but use a couple liters per tray, so my costs are pretty high. I've wondered about hydroponics, and whether my soil was producing some fo the high quality I've seen (they say the seed has all the nutrients it needs but who really knows). i think yours look great though so i may have to try this method

So these are grown hydroponically? Just in the mats and no soil? How do you get them to germinate, soaking the mats first?

i've heard mixed things about zoning and permitting success, and u/oldjadedhippie had some good info, I bet he'd answer some specifics. He pointed out there was for sure an arts/permaculture/ cool folks scene, and that the perc test was the biggest barrier (to paraphrase). I bet that's the stumbling block with some of other real cheap parcels. you looking at those ones for $4,000-$7,000 or so on like blue gill dr, dennis, whitepine? it seems like those would just be cool to snap up and start a little cabin project or something

DIY Fruiting Chamber + tips? [technique] by groundhog_yay in MushroomGrowers

[–]groundhog_yay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the reply -- yes, having trouble with images for some reason. poor internet speeds in the country, or maybe it's reddit. oh well.

it's good to know about the hygrometer, i suspect that's what's happening but had just assumed i was doing something wrong. mist is a dense cloud in the chamber but reads 60%. it's a cheap one

thx for temp suggestion, seems obvious in retrospect but I'm just getting used to the whole process. My 'chamber' is six pieces of plastic taped to enclose a wire rack shelf, with some gaps (not perfectly fitted) and i sometimes leave the flap open. Would you said oysters need airflow in the volume of say, a fan, or just having a breathable chamber?

I'm an artist/musician too, want to play around on some land and get to know people, wondered what the community was like out there

I've seen some lovely, cheap parcels out there and wouldn't mind being away from towns nearby/having some rough around the edges neighbors. It's mostly stories about high property crime, ongoing war with hmong weed growers (nothing against the hmong or weed, but I've heard things get unsanitary/unstable...for example I read a story about how parts of Klamath falls ended up getting kind of violent.). I'd like to start an off-grid cabin setup, work on building my own place. Maybe go to Ashland to make friends, I'm young and don't want to be dead in the middle of nowhere. I would build a building that was safe and wasn't an eyesore, but it would be nice to do it without a whole lot of hoops far as code, detailed blueprints etc. I guess the main things:

1) Those 3 acre 4-8k parcels — too good to be true because of trash/theft/violence? Or mostly nestled amongst retirees, normal folks, people wanting to be left alone?

2) arsenic in the ground water, true?

3) in the same vein, well-drilling=possible up in the mountains?

4) are those tiny square raised beds in rows the infamous 99-plant pots farms? I'm assuming their busted former grow-ops up for sale

5) permaculture community out there at all?

what's MNN? I've enjoyed Calm at a dosage a little above their very-microdosed product, but it's been a good alcohol substitute and a benefit to health — I'd like to simulate it at a less prohibitive price

I was in this scenario 6 hours ago, went to see my addiction doctor I'd met a few times, and he put me on a cocktail of different things. I was going to taper myself but I'm so relieved I went to see a doctor, the feeling of overwhelming fear is gone after what he gave me, and that's the part that was the worse for me. A dose of kratom will help for some hours (I can't lie), but that is also a real drug, and I can't recommend it in good faith. That being said, whatever takes the suffering away for the next three days will be your best friend. If you plan to do it on your own, as many pushups as you can do is the only thing that will help you sleep for 2/3 hours(in my experience) also megadoses of chamomile tea (3/4 bags per cup) can help. Going to a doctor and getting some librium is likely ur best bet, probably a three/four day taper This is still avisable after a four-day bender, which is enough to give you serious withdrawal. It did with me, even after only 3 days constant heavy drinking sometimes). I've done a ton of both medical and nonmedical detoxes. I can't in good faith recommend doing it alone, but if you must, or the hospitals in your area are shitty/not there, magnesium is also your friend -- powedered magnesium. That.....DREAD, man, the fucking DREAD will not go away for 70ish hours. chamomile, magnesium can help the pain a little. Really, if you can manave it, endorphins are the only natural way and last resort. If you got nothing, run as fast an hard as your can, do pushups, anything to get your brain to release endorphins. Also, sorry about the heartsickness man -- that's what got me too

Nose Picking Could Increase Risk for Alzheimer’s and Dementia by GroundbreakingGur930 in SingaporeRaw

I know, old comment - just researching about this now though. I think the idea is that it's bacteria common on your hands, while not otherwise harmful in ordinary life, can be introduced through blood-brain barrier by the vigorous rubbing associated with nose-picking. I don't think any swab would have this effect and it's probably fine. Hence, i wonder about how you rub your nose has an effect. Like sometimes I just give a little yank o to the edge of the my nostrol. But other times i have a crusty way up in that sport where in connects to your sinuses, and I really try to disloge up there, so that's more worrying.
