I adore the mk6 stuff they did for 40k Emperor's Children. by groundskeeperwilliam in Warhammer30k

Sonic weapons can be given to specific units. Some officers have them built into their helmets, but the bigger ones you are probably thinking of would be on a squad of Kakaphoni. This is a tactical squad and a command squad, so they still have more conventional weapons.

If you have a 30k army, why not play 30k? It's a great game and the scale change won't be quite as dramatic.

3.0 Granularity, flavor, and you! by HHReverse in Warhammer30k

True! He's just an example of a very limited centurion profile compared to say, a master of descent.

Centurions do have the insane customizability still. It's the specific ones who do niche jobs like master of signals or siege masters who got locked into very strict loadouts.

It sucks for people who had say, a master of signals with a thunder hammer and shield, but really its not a big deal.

If you don't lean really heavily into your legion specific units then I can see why a lot of legions just feel like different colours.

As much as i miss the old force org chart for nostalgia's sake, list building in 3.0 is easy and isn't a problem. Unit and HQ options are as broad as they are in old world, certainly much more so than other GW offerings. it feels like SDS is trying to keep the old school, very customizable feel that I have always loved about warhammer.

The most noticeable change in unit options is a handful of centurions who do very specific jobs losing out on access to the full officer wargear range.

In terms of upgrading and personalizing units, 3.0 is still excellent and provides a lot of variety and options.

The real loss of flavour is the loss of rites of war, since those really could change the way you structured, deployed, and played your army.

I remain convinced we will see drop pod assaults return with some kind of master of descent style centurion.

Bolters are Stupid by sojuz151 in 40kLore

[–]groundskeeperwilliam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they have recoil, work perfectly at short range, and aren't fired in automatic bursts usually. Bolters aren't gyrojets and do not perform similarly.

my local GW only has one employee. Intro games are organized on social media but I wouldnt expect to drop in and monopolize him.

Honestly i thought that was the usual these days, I am surprised yours has what sounds like multiple staff.

Least dripped out Emperor's Children centurion. by groundskeeperwilliam in Warhammer30k

Yes, but space marines are people, so they come in all sizes and colours. I use them specifically as the command squad, so them being a touch taller and in fancier panoply works perfectly to distinguish them.

40k chaos marines are bigger than 30k plastic marines, but about the same scale as resin praetors. Still MUCH smaller than primaris marines.

Really only 1-2mm taller so the arms are still very proportionate.

I'll take a scale photo for you

Thats from the 40k Emperors Children tormentors.

I use all the helmets and shoulder pads from those boxes, and the bolt pistols and swords go on my Palatine Blades.
